The 256G NVME primary drive on the Legion 5 Ryzen 5 laptop is going to be too small. I was thinking of going to a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB.
I understand the 970 Evo Plus can run hot, too hot for the Legion 5? How about with a low profile (a few mm) heat sink?
Clone the original drive with Macrium Reflect.
    Any ideas?

Unless there is any airflow across a heat sink it doesn’t actually do any good, it just becomes a heat reservoir.

I will check out the fitment of the SSD when I upgrade the RAM. I figured somebody with a beefier Legion than mine will have installed a 970 Evo Plus and could comment on performance.
I will be using the computer mainly for video and photo editing, a few games. Always need more storage.

There is a heat sink or a shield in legion 7 with a thermal pad for ssd. No such thing in 5? It keeps my ssds nice and cool

The RAM has been upgraded to 16G, 2x8.
The stock 256G Samsung NVMe SSD has been replaced with a 1TB Sabrent Rocket. A 1TB Crucial SATA SSD replaced the stock 1TB WD HD. The computer is fast and cool. I noticed the Crucial SSD runs 10°C hotter than the Sabrent system SSD. That's all I needed to see and ordered another 1TB Sabrent Rocket to replace the SATA SSD, which will go in a USB C external case.
