    Yeah, that's a thing now.

So I came across this while shopping for a new laptop. I brought it down to the i7 version of this, and an Asus with similar specs (thread here) and then found out about the i5-3210m version. Needless to say, this one is way cheaper, and it's listed as having 2xUSB 3.0 and 1x2.0, whereas the i7 version only has 1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0. (?! You'd think it'd be the other way around..)

So I was hoping to get a discussion going on this version, as I have a lot of questions about it, such as:

    - if anyone owns it yet; and if so does it have the same problems as the i7 so far,

    - what the maximum capacity (chipset/HDD/whether you can install the SLi bay, etc.) is,

    - if you can install a generic blu-ray drive, (it only has a DL DVD-R) or get an Ultra-Bay version (and if so, where do you get those?)

    - if the battery life is any better.

Mostly its just a question of whether this is going to be worth it in the long run, or if you're better off holding out for the i7.

    Thanks for reading :)

My Y500 comes with 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0. Think it was an error in the literature you read. Lenovo's marketing department obviously doesn't talk to the engineering department too much because there are literature out there that says this thing support Optimus and WiDi and right now it clearly does not. Personally, I would get the i7 just because the number 7 is higher than 5. Glad I didn't use that theory when I chose the Y500 over the Y580 though. hehe
