Anyone using the Lenovo-Mozy Online Data Backup? I got the free 90 day trial and like it. Lenovo sent me an email saying the free trial is ending, but they did not provide a website link to buy a subscription. I emailed back for a link but they refused to provide a link, and instead said I should call "800-426-7378 and they will be happy to assist you."

Well, the folks in the Philippines at that number had never heard of Lenovo Online Data Backup, and the folks in Atlanta they sent me to hadn't either.

So I figured I'd ask the real experts: you guys. Does anyone know how to extend the free trial into a paid subscription?

    Thanks!

P.S.: Can you believe they would run a company this way? All they had to do was include a website link in the first email when they said my free trial was ending. Wouldn't that be cheaper than twenty minutes of customer service rep time? Sheesh.

Thanks. That link is to the login screen that takes me to my account. There the only option is to restore files. There are no typical account management links for changing account plans, payment, etc.

I tried logging into the regular Mozy login and that didn't work, so it appears the Lenovo-Mozy accounts are segregated from the regular Mozy accounts.

I'm still baffled by all this. Lenovo wants people to pay but didn't create a way for them to pay?

go here and purchase one of the services -- not a renewal.   as long as you use the same email as you did in your trial then your service will continue uninterrupted.

nothing will ship.   a switch gets flipped in the background and everything will work in the OLDB software.

    Persnickety & Eric:
Thank you for the insight. I assumed if I bought it that way it would be a new subscription, not an extension, and I would have to do a full backup again. The website doesn't say it anywhere.

Here's another question: why are those prices higher than Mozy? Lenovo is $70/year for 50 Gb; Mozy is $5/mo for unlimited or only $55 annual.

I still can't get an answer from Lenovo email support, BTW.

lenovo's prices are actually quite a bit lower.   $5/month from mozy only gets you a standard account where lenovo uses mozypro.   the differences can be compared here.

on top of that, you get lenovo's robust OLDB software with full shell integration, automated backup, custom backup sets, etc.

regarding email support, what questions do you still have?

I see now that Lenovo uses MozyPro. Lenovo didn't make that clear. I see that regular Mozy has full shell integration, automated backup, custom backup sets, etc. This is a personal Thinkpad so I don't need the enterprise backup benefits of MozyPro (backing up Exchange Server, Windows Server, centralized admin, etc.)

My best course is to dump Lenovo backup and sign up for Mozy unlimited at $55 per year. I'm willing to bet that Mozy will actually be able to answer questions too.

Thanks for the help!! I wish Lenovo support was as helpful.
