So my Z61t ship date got pushed to the 28th - 8 days after I leave the country for over a year, what was the reason they gave?

    To which I asked

They dont have hard drives and ram in either shanghai or north carolina?!?! bloody hell!

Oh, great, thanks - out of the millions of HDDs and RAM units out there I'm one of 75 people who doesnt have one?!?

This is a resounding "well crap"

And perhaps thus ends my z61t dream.

Funny, when my t60 was first placed, the only thing not in stock was the HD. Magically, 2 weeks later when my order ship date was changed on my first estimated ship date to 12 days later, I called up and was told everything was now out of stock. Frame, HD, ram, EVERYTHING.

I think they have no clue how to handle a inventory, estimate shipping deadlines, or properly notify customers of delays before hand.

yeah, the first response I got was "the wifi-lan unit is out of stock" then he actually checked and everything was gone...

if nothing moved by friday I'll probably have to cancel and go with non-lenovo just to get something in time...which sucks because there aren't any fast turn-around companies that I really want a computer from.

they should check newegg and get the stuff from there. I ordered a hitachi travelstar 7k100 from newegg yesterday. And they shipped the same day.

Ugh, it's like a broken record with shipping issues at Lenovo. Maybe ordering an Express model config Z61t from Buy.com would be faster. Of course, I understand the benefits of ordering direct, but Lenovo never seems to have stock for components of the machines it makes. odd.

just FYI I did a custom order z60t around the end of june. Est. ship date is tomorrow. I just called them up and they said everything is great and it should ship tomorrow. One would think that HD's and RAM would be the same between a z60 and z61. I think it something else personally.

The hard drives can be interchanged, but the memory cannot.

    yeh i guess you're right. I wasn't thinking.

At anyrate I think its more likely there is some shortage of a z61 specific part like the screen or something rather than a simple commodity like ram.

you'd think a company like lenovo would actually stock up a bit more or check inventory every once in a while.

Costs money to store all those parts.

Other companies seem to be doing that just fine.

I'd love a Z61t but at this rate I don't think it's worth dealing with Lenovo. Their apparent incompetence is costing them a lot of money and reputation.

yeah I would think if you are trying to build upon the IBM name, you would make sure your operations are flawless. I don't mind if the ship date is pushed back as much as it shouldn't have to be. And if this has to be, what else will happen? I am trying to decide between z61t and macbook, and I think I'll end up going with the macbook.

Ok I retract my previous statement about on time delivery of my z60t. Even after they told me yesterday that everything was fine, my date slipped a week. After calling back this morning, the rep said that there was a meeting going on right now on why the z60t are being delayed. He thought it was the wi-fi card.

It appears buying directly from Lenovo may be a bad idea. First you have to pay sales tax, terrible. Secondly, your laptop never ships on time or within a reasonable period of time.

Why do so many of you choose to buy directly from Lenovo? The warranty is the same buying from a 3rd party company. The only downside is not being able to customize the laptop. Considering the sales tax, this should offset the lack of customization.
