Does anyone know if the Lenovo 128gb SSD has TRIM? Besides the size differences, how do these drives stack up to each other performance wise? The Intel drive is double the cost of upgrading the Lenovo drive.

If you're talking about the original Samsung SSD, i think it's quite slow compared to the new ones.
-
I am talking about the one that currently ships with the W510.
-
the 128gb is very slow for OS/programs compared to the intel
for storage it is comparable
the 128gb does not have TRIM, as far as I'm aware -
Just get it with the slowest drive and buy the SSD you want. Then you can pick up the modular hard drive caddy to throw your old drive in for extra storage.

between these two, definitely the intel one

If you assessment is based on benchmark numbers that you see on the internet, this is not even correct, as latest generation Samsung SSDs are not far from Intel SSDs.
If you take an older generation Samsung 128GB SSD like the one I have in my X200, it is still extremely fast and far from "very slow for OS/Programs" like you state. In real life operations such as booting, running programs and multi-tasking, chances are that even comparing my old gen Samsung SSD with latest gen Intel SSD, you will only feel a minimal difference - if any.
Here are some links with some more info on the "slow and old" Samsung SSDs:

i still stand behind that - the 4k write performance of the samsungs is below that of the intel drives -

I think you need to do better than that. Mentioning a 4k write performance does not enforce the case.
Define and show examples of "very slow for OS/Programs". If you could back up your statement with real application scenarios, people should find that the differences are minimal "for OS/Programs".
Many users on these boards are being scared into buying the most expensive top of the line drives, due to similar "very slow" comments. However 99.9% of all users would be blown away and be more than content with the performance of just the previous generation Samsung SSDs.
The OP is indirectly asking if the performance difference is big enough to justify the costs of the Intel drive which in his case is double the cost of the stock 128GB drive. So what is your purchase recommendation, since you believe the difference is very significant? -
Absolutely correct....
The new TRIM argument has become the absolute best sales job for Intel yet. One can speak of the 4K write argument but then fail to speak of the 'REAL WORLD' performance on the other end which puts well Samsung well ahead. My Samsung reads at over 200mb/s with a write about 145mb/s whereas the Intel boasts a high of 99mb/s write???
For the consumer, the Intel is a GREAT ssd and yes, I would like to see anyone come up with real world examples of how OS/programs are much slower on the Sammy...
These tests really haven't surfaced yet. eheheh -
How much of a difference in booting time for Windows 7 with the stock Samsung SSD vs an Intel one?
-
Boot time is a real funny thing.... There is a boot thread that you will see I just posted results in. My top time for this system is 19 seconds, which is second best. The drive I use in this system is a Samsung 64Gb which only achieves 98mb/s read and aboutt 70mb/s write and was Sammys first 64 gb release.
Now....I know there are alot better ssds tested that blow away this ssd but, the trick of the boot is a fresh OS installation along with managing services and startup programs and topped by tweaking things such as your msconfig file. I change my time out to 3 seconds, go to advanced options and set processor to '2' and memory to '4096'.
Even for my sons 1810TZ I just bought him, it boots consistently around 35 sec with a HD and no special playing whatsoever...just a fresh install which is a huge key to the whole boot process. -

These are the results somebody posted:

I can confirm this! Same results here. -
