Hello fellow forumers,
I was one of the people who snoozed and loozed in that last lenovo EPP (share holder) deal. However, they are running a similar promotion at the moment (a Memorial Day sale) that closely matches that EPP deal.
I am basing this off on the laptop I have been eyeballing.
Lenovo Thinkpad T60p
2.0 ghz Core 2 Duo
80gb 5200rpm HD
Radeon FireGL
Fingerpring scanner
all other components default
for a total of just about $1400!!
Lets break down the numbers:
On the expired EPP deal:
base price for T60p = 1400
Tax (from California) = 115.5
Fatwallet %5 cashback = 70
Amex Tailormade cashback = 98
For a grand total of $1347.50
Under the new and current deal:
base price for T60p = 1402
tax from CA = 115.66
Fatwallet %3.5 cashback = 49.07
No tailormade promotion
grand total of $1468.60.
In conclusion, there is a price difference of just over $100 between the current deal and the old deal. But in my opinion, this is still an excellent deal.
Now I am hoping to bring in discussion about this topic. does anyone have any insights on anything else we can throw on top of this current promotion? Does anyone have any info on upcoming Amex Tailormade discounts??

If you use the EPP and purchase a 3-year warranty, will they check on your shareholder status? What I mean is, say I need to use the warranty, will I be denied repair as I don't have a Lenovo share? Is the warranty even worth it?

I just don't see it getting to that point though. -
Buying with the EPP program can be risky if you aren't the actual employee bringing it in to be serviced. When buying under the EPP program, that laptop is linked to that employee's identification number. I doubt any employee would post his identification numbers on the internet and have his account show he's purchased a couple hundred laptops, all delivered to different places.
I think there is pretty much zero risk with buying with the SPP. But if you're still afraid, there is also an Academic program for college students and from what I can tell, alumni, which means if you're in or have graduated from college, you get the discount. There is no password to fill out either. Pretty much an honor system. Discount is also 5%.
