Hi, I am having a Lenovo with the above model. However, my lenovo has a Celeron CPU of 1.6Ghz. Is there anyway I have change the CPU of this laptop to a better one. I have seen on lenovo websites that this model also comes with the Core2Duo Processor. So I'm wondering if they are using the same motherboard, then it should be possible to change right? Please advise as the performance of the Celeron chip is really very slow. I've even upgraded the RAM from 512MB to 1.5GB. Please advise. Oh, it'll be even better if someone can recommend me where I can get the upgrade done in Singapore. :p

There are currently 2 N100 types.
The type with number starts with 7 will let you do it, on the other hand, the type that starts with 6 is no good.

Yes, the processor should be upgradeable. So long as you have an Intel 945 chipset, then you should be able to install the new processor. You will also notice quite a jump in the responsiveness of the notebook, because you will be upgrading to a dual core processor. Bear in mind, you may require a BIOS update to install the new processor, and upgrading will void the warranty of the notebook.

Normally, if a notebook motherboard supports a range of processors, like Core 2 Duo, then it will support all of the processors in that range. However, some notebooks have been known not to follow this pattern. A BIOS update for the notebook should say up to which processor model it supports.

Ok. I've opened up the back casing to have a look. It's printed "PGA 478" on the socket for the CPU. Do I have to take note of this or can I just go ahead and get me a faster processor. Thank you ZERO for helping with the advise. :D :D Greatly appreciate it!! :)

That means your N100 is of type 0689
Don't waste your money, no decent upgrades are available to you.
You need type 0768 (as I mentioned before) to do those decent upgrades you have in mind.

Mine is type 0689 and has the same Capell Valley (Napa) CRB motherboard. The cpu is Core Duo. So is it possible for you to upgrade to core duo instead?

Thanks all ... I'll be glad as long as I can do 'some' effective upgrade.

The 1.6ghz Celeron is a very fast processor. Only reason to upgrade would be for another core. I benched the Yonah Celeron against a Pentium M 2GHz and the Celeron scored similarly in SuperPI.

But mine is like taking very very long to be fully loaded up. And it is slow when I tried to execute programs. I've upgraded the RAM from 512MB to 1.5GB and the speed wasn't that obvious and on top of that, a lot of RAM memory seems to be under-utilised. Any advice would be great. :)

Try stopping some o the programs on startup from srartiong up when th computer turns on. You should be able to do this from within the program itself, but some are more persistent than others. For that, you can choose to select Windows starting them up or not, from running "msconfig" from the Run facility. Select the "Startup" tab, and the list of all the programs that don't and do startup will present itself to you. From there, you can select which you want to start up, and which you don't. Be careful though, as they have different names, and you don't want to be unchecking a program that needs to start up when the computer does.

I recently purchased the 3000 c200, the larger cousin of your n100. out of the box there was a lot of bloatware and junk that I dont need. I disabled everything except for one or two wireless apps. I dont need another password saver. I dont need a lite image viewer. I dont need my startpage reset everytime I power up! I used spybot S&D to get rid of the more egregious offenders. Most of them I used good ole services to either disable or set to manual. Disable indexing! Now my celeron is adequate.
I may still attempt a cpu upgrade though. If nothing else I would assume getting teh system buss to 667 from 533 would enhance performance.

Have any of you had problems with your Lenovo freezing as soon as you get on your profile? I'm able to go through the startup process just fine, but when I click on my profile, the background loads but no taskbar or desktop icons appear. It's just the wallpaper and I can't access any apps. Does anyone have any advice?
