I am looking at an Office Depot ad for this laptop, its priced at $949. w/$300 rebates. Is this a good laptop? This would be my first laptop and it seems to fit my style. The reviews are a little outdated but they seem to say its a good laptop. Anyone agree? Also is it easy to upgrade the vid card? I think its a Nvidia GO 7300.

It's not bad Nvidia GO 7300 is a bit old but should do the trick unless you are a hardcore gamer. Also, it is not possible to upgrade the video card on notebooks. Unless ofcourse it is one of the very few exceptions, which in this case it isn't. Keep in mind that when you are buying anything including notebooks that you usually get what you pay for.

Thanks, nevermind. Office Depot is pulling the old bait and switch. None of the local stores have them in stock. What a joke.

Buy it from newegg.com. The price is lower and shipping is faster.

Well for what its worth, I recently bought one of these and I have to say you get a lot of computer for the price.
I don't know the specs on the one offered by Office Depot, but for $800 I was able to get a finger print reader, integrated Bluetooth, ABG WiFi, a Gig of RAM, 14.1in screen and a 1.66Ghz Core Duo processor, plus the additional software (aka Thinkpad).
The computer is very quick, quite, and cool to the touch, with only a slight warm spot over the left palm rest just above where the HD is located.
All in all I'm quite impressed and pleased. -
How does the built quality compare to the Thinkpad lines? Having never had my hands on a "true" Thinkpad, I thought the keyboard and screen was pretty good on the store display model of the Lenovo N100. There is even an option for a high rez screen and a core2 duo. Good deal for $1400, or will I be missing something the Z61m has?

and yes you will be missing a good laptop.
I know I'll be quoted but I'll say it.
The difference between N100 and z61m is as large as the distance between Earth and the Moon. -
maybe earth to the mars -
The N100 is more geared at the small business owner and for what it offered satisfied my needs.
Granted the N100 is no where near the caliber of the ThinkPad line. For one the case is not as robust and muck thinker. Also it does not have some of the hardware/security funtions as the ThinkPad line does. However, component for component the N100 can hold its own.
As I mentioned in an my earlier post, the N100 does incorporate some of the ThinkPad software, though it is limited. This computer has had some excellant write ups and for those that can't afford or don't want to dole out the exxtra cash for a ThinkPad this is a viable alternative.
Lenovo 3000 N100.Is it good?
