Hi, I am looking at buying a Lenovo 3000 N200 here in Canada through the visaperks.ca deals. Currently I am between this laptop and a Dell Vostro 1500. After reading reviews of both laptops it sounds like the 1500 has some build quality issues and I am now leaning towards the Lenovo.
Here are the basic specs:
Lenovo 3000 N200:
Processor Type: Intel® Core 2 Duo T7300 2000MHz
Memory: 2048MB
Disc Capacity: 160GB
Graphic subsystem: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 with Turbo Cache 256 MB
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Business Screen: 15.4 WSXGA+ VibrantView T 1680x1050 Onboard Graphic Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 with Turbo Cache Onboard Audio: ALC861VD Included Modem: 56Kbps data/14.4Kbps fax Hard Drive Controller: Serial ATA Onboard Network Contoller: Gigabit Ethernet- Integrated 10Mbps,100Mbps,1000M Battery Type: 6 Cell Lithium-Ion External Speakers: 2 (Internal Speakers) Warranty: One year parts and labor (system battery: one year) Wireless:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
9 Cell battery
price ~ $1300 CDN with shipping and taxes
My main question to the owners is: are you happy with your buy and are there any issues with the notebook.
Lastly, how long did it take for the laptop to ship?
Thanks.

I doubt many people in the US / Canada buy regular Lenovo notebooks, they are popular in China though.

Whenever I have seen the Lenovo 3000 series at a local Circuit City or Office Depot, I have always found them to be really solid laptops, even more so than my R-51 thinkpad (yes i said it). Great build quality especially the keyboard.
-
I've bought the N200. I am happy as I can be with it. I didn't have the budget for the T61 so I settled for the N200. It works great for all my purposes, and can even do some gaming (namely Counter-Strike: Source)
As for how long it took to ship... Basically you order, and as soon as you get charged on your Visa count about 5 business days. And poof enjoy. -
I was also wondering about ram upgrades. I wanted to add 1 GB of Ram which costs $40 cdn to install. I am an electronics systems engineer so I am fairly confident I could install it unless special tools or the process is overly complicated. However, would this in any way void my warranty if i did it myself?
-
Just open the manual and then you can follow that quite easily... It seemed to me to be a little more complicated than normal so I opted to just have it installed at the factory
The manual is found at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/42x3553_02.pdf -
I originally ordered the T61 before canceling it due to the 4 week wait they told me. Then I started looking at the 3000N200... if it came with a better graphics card that would have been my laptop choice.

i purchased the lenovo n200 3000 a couple of weeks ago for college and love it! i didnt buy my notebook through the lenovo web site...so it took my oreder longer to be shipped. but ive experienced no problems with it, and although i dont game, id really rec. this laptop for a school/home/work notebook.

lenovo is only good for their business class thinkpads. if you're thinking about the n200 look at dell or something. u will get cheaper price and simliar if not better parts and deals

I have to agree with surfer666. I'm leaning towards the N200 because for the same specs, with the visaperks.ca deals, it is cheaper then a Vostro. I also hear Lenovo have better build quality and the Vostro 1500s are having some issues.

I've had my N200 (0769A8U) for a few weeks now and have been very pleased. Shipping was fast at 1.5 weeks (Lenovo Canada had it in stock), and the price was simply outstanding (through visaperks.ca, $1098 including an extra 9-cell battery and extra AC adaptor). There was really nothing that came close for that price.
The screen is excellent, keyboard very comfortable, and the webcam produces a surprisingly clear image. I was little concerned with the glossy screen, having never used one before. But I have no complaints, reflections are minimal and well worth putting up with for the extremely vibrant image quality.
There was a fair amount of bloat-ware, but doing a full recovery allows you to choose what gets reloaded, I was very happy with that. Like all the reviews say, gaming performance is so-so, but that's not what this laptop is marketed for.
Any questions, let me know. -
Actually, I'm looking at the exact same laptop for all the same reasons. I might buy mine today.
-
And if you buy additional RAM (I'd recommended it, actually, and it's dirt cheap), don't choose to have them install it. They charge $40 and it's incredibily easy to do it yourself. The instructions are very clear.
Good luck! -
I was planning on getting more ram and installing it. That's a good idea to have them ship the parts as they become available.
-
bmt_toronto, I was also thinking of ordering the same deal from the visa perks site but I had a few questions...
1) Does this model ship with gigbait ethernet? Their product description lists 10/100 in one section and then 10/100/1000 in another.
2) Is the fan bothersome and does it run frequently?
3) Does Lenovo Canada offer a Dell-like Complete Care package? This model only comes with a 1 year warranty and I was hoping to get more comprehensive coverage.
Thanks in advance -
The N200 is a very good value. Even Dell couldn't beat the price when I was configuring it and comparing it with a similarly built Vostro.
-
According to Lenovo there is a 3-4 week wait for the N200. Just so you know. I'm thinking of getting something else, maybe a T61 or R61.

1. The ethernet card is listed as "Broadcom 590x 10/100 Ethernet", looks like it's NOT gigabit, but to be honest I'm not sure how to confirm it....
2. The fan only seems to run at startup (either boot or standby), it's noticable but not annoying.
3. See previous post. I purchased the 2-yr Lenovo Complete Care and I think it was a good deal. -
bmt_toronto:
Dose your system (0769A8U) come with webcam, bluetooth and fingerprint reader? Also, is the wireless 802.11n capable?
Thanks -
I have the 0769A8U as well. It came with a webcam, bluetooth, and a finger print reader. Also it has the Intel 4965AGN which is 802.11n capable.

Having said all that, I recently bought an N200 and I am already having issues, my built in mouse or pointing device stopped working within one week.
Also, vista doesn't provide a driver for built in webcam, Lenovo doesn't have a driver either...they are still working on the case. -
