I just purchased an Ideapad U330 for $1378- the higher spec model, with the 3 year warranty with Accidental Damage. The warranty was ~$200, what are your thoughts on Lenovo service? Worth the money, or not?

    Thanks in advance!

Considering the cost of replacing a motherboard or a LCD screen, yes, it is worth it. I myself got the 4 year. As a computer technician, I have seen my fair share of mishaps as well as plain and simple component failure. I never buy a laptop with any less than the max extended warranty. The cost of replacing a motherboard can be as much as the total cost of the laptop its self...Its tragic.

It depends on your use of the machine and what you will be doing with it. I use my machine at home mostly and don't eat or drink near it(take good care of it), so I got the regular non accident warranty. But if you plan to use it in college and plan on taking it to classes and living with a dorm mate, I would stick with the accident warranty.

The warranty guide may be worth a look.

It's an insurance policy when you get right down to it. You can pay for that policy up front, or you can assume the risk yourself.

"Worth it" is a subjective thing that nobody can truly answer for you. Depends way too much on how long you intend to keep the system, what environment you use it in i.e. carting around every day vs. it sitting on your desk 30 days a month, and probably a bunch of other factors.

If you can't afford to lose, insure it.

    Haha well said, I agree.

I am a college student, and figuring how everything else I own gets shat on in one way or another, I should do myself a favor and insure it. My only concern is the quality of Lenovo service, should an incident happen.

And thanks for the guide, I am reading it right now.
