Lenovo's prices fluctuate, A LOT. My recommendation to you is to configure systems weekly and concert them to quotes in the order process instead of actually buying them. The quotes are good for 30-days after getting it so if the price goes up after you got the quote you can use the quote to get the lower price they had before.

In terms of sales, again, it's better to do the quote thing, because what might seem like a sale 1-month down the road is actually more than what it cost a couple weeks back.

    GET QUOTES!

    EDIT: Also, use student pricing!

Yea the price changes a lot...
I was configuring one for fun on friday and all of a sudden I saw a banner that says something like "first 300 customers to call gets 20% off" at checkout
Not sure if it's a good deal though :/
Vista Home Premium (free Win 7 upgrade), P8700, 2GB ram (1 dimm), ATI 3470, 250 GB 5400 rpm (free upgrade from 160gb), 14.1 WXGA+ CCFL backlit (free webcam), Intel wifi link 5300, 6 cell battery, cdrw/dvd (no dvd burner)
    It's $928.14 (includes lame CA tax -_-)

Coupons and sales come and go on a regular basis but as other have said prices fluctuate even more regularly (sometimes daily) so the quote option is definitely the best way to go because it's hard to tell if a "special sale" price is actually any better than the regular "permanent sale" price.

FWIW I have found Tuesday to be the best day of the week to buy. Thursday to Monday prices tend to be higher :D

At the end of checkout (when you have to enter your CC number) there is an option at the bottom of the screen to convert your order to a quote. You'll need to sign-up for an account, but it's free and quick.

For Canadians, there are a lot of Lenovo coupon codes at RedFlagDeals and FabulousSavings. Though coupons cannot be combined, they can be used on top of Lenovo's sale prices.

My two cents: Even if you order a ThinkPad, get a quote for the exact same configuration. If the order is cancelled/misdelivered, you'll still be guaranteed the quoted price for that configuration for 30 days.

    Good luck.

Out of curiosity, when do the prices change? At 12:00 AM (EST?), or when business opens the next morning? So, would it be best to stay up and do the pricing tonight, or only tomorrow morning? (Yes, I realize I should check more than that, just trying to reduce chances and hassle).

sl: I think they had one last year. Don't know about other years. I'd think any back to school sales whould already be in place; K-12 is already started in some counties here, others start next week. Universities are starting in a couple weeks.

Doubt it'd apply to CPP pricing anyway, which is generally the best deal around.

pem69: with all due respect, you're overanalyzing this to death. Build configs and save as quotes. After a couple weeks you should have a feel for any cycles if they exist; I doubt they do (my guess is pipspeak was pulling your leg)

Lew: Point taken. On the other hand, I have noticed that exact trend with airline ticket prices, though those tend to fluctuate more (and don't have coupons). But you're right that I do tend to overanalyze. Thanks for the much-needed reality check.

pem69 -- Thanks for not taking offense. Please understand that I called you on overanalyzing only because I'm very bad for doing the same thing myself.

It took a while to realize that I'd spend hours and hours agonizing over something that might mean $40 in the end. There's better things to do with one's time.
