actually i wondered about the logo too, i thought it has been chrome on all of their laptops for a while, but when i got my t400 it was black

i guess you dont buy a thinkpad for looks, so a chrome logo wouldnt make a difference imo, but somehow i 'miss' it...

No, I want black and muted. "Thinkpad" already stands out on the laptop lid.

This to me is comonly brought up, assuming your opinion of ugly is the same as everyone else's, which it probably isn't. Reviewers of ThinkPads shouldn't even bring up looks anymore when reviewing a ThinkPad. To me with a ThinkPad, you either love it or you hate it. Most people i've seen hate the look, but i love it, it's great to not have to worry about theft because the majority of thieves know nothing about what valuable hardware a ThinkPad could contain.

Euuuwww, no. ThinkPads are all about understated elegance, not bling.

Thinkpads are all about understatements, so it is complete opposite design cue to the Macbook pro or ideapads.

Personally, I would prefer no "Lenovo" lettering on the lid, only on the inside, but it's okay as it is.

I just changed jobs and they gave me a new T400. It has the lenovo badge on the cover... don't necessarily like it, but it really dosn't bother me either. I still think it has a plastic film over it that I haven't removed. The cover also still has the energystar sticker that is probably going to get removed soon.

No. I want all logos to be as subtle as possible. My x200s has the perfect balance between subtle yet perfectly useable.

My roommate has a 15" MBP. He laughs at my laptop, but I laugh when his 8600GT will fail. lol.

JaneL used the exact two words I would have used: understated elegance.

I like one logo on the lid, though --people know what it is then. Just vanity on my part --techie folk would know what the system is anyway.

I'm glad though, not to have anything else, and that there's no silver or chrome-look plastics. I'm also glad there's no glossy, fingerprint-collecting surfaces. With a ThinkPad, the form is IN the function of the design, rather than being separate from it.

I like the way the ThinkPad is designed right now. It's very simple and professional. I'm happy that the Lenovo logo was designed as black and the ThinkPad logo is silver, a nice contrast with the entire laptop.

With all that said, even without a huge logo or something really bright, I still recognize a ThinkPad from all the way across the room.

I prefer the nondescript black Lenovo emblem compared to the large and tacky logos on other laptops. The "ThinkPad" corner emblem is great.

I went from "Man that thing looks like it was made in the fifties" to "ThinkPads are the most elegant laptops out there" in less than a year... all that without therapy too!

Agree with all of the above comments - love the Lenovo logo, love the ThinkPad emblem... hope they never change them.

I had not noticed what was on the lid of mine till this thread and I would not have noticed the plastic film over "lenovo" had you not mentioned it. :D I just removed the film, and the "lenovo" is even more muted, nicely so.

Very pleased. I love the matte screen and how cool it runs. Those were the two most important factors. However, the keyboard is great and the LED screen is nice and bright, two nice bonuses.

There are other little things, such as the web browser back and forward buttons, but I'm still getting used to the keyboard layout. I'm not sure I'll ever be in love with the Ctrl and Fn keys being reversed. You don't know how many times I've hit Fn-C and discovered I had nothing to paste.

Oh, and the fact that the screen will lay all the way back has come in handy in certain lighting situations.

"Most people i've seen hate the look, but i love it, it's great to not have to worry about theft because the majority of thieves know nothing about what valuable hardware a ThinkPad could contain."

You don't know your theives very well. I was in an accident about a year and a half ago when I was run over by an illegal alien. I was knocked way unconscous and my dog was killed. Thieves stole the lenovo later. They made a mistake of connecting it to a internet. The lojack software reports in everytime. It called the lojack host computer and it developed quite a log. The police were contacted here and an arrest was made. The trial was yesterday and they had what they needed for a conviction. The theives had no idea what they had, if they did, they wouldn't have touched it.

Theives are not discriminant. They'll steal anything. But don't f**k with a systems programmer. They'll get you everytime. My Lenovo came back in perfect condition.

The point is the thinkpads are not as noticeable or as widely recognized and therefore perceived to not be as valuable. That doesn't mean they cannot be stolen. I just personally notice that people do not notice my laptop much.

Also all our anecdotal evidence doesn't really mean anything.

I was just stating that to me theft of ThinkPads would show to be lower than that of other laptop brands. I know they will steal anything but if it looks "good" or what they think looks good, it will sell faster, easier, and therefore they will go for better looking laptops as a result, or what is better looking to them.

I think that all depends on whether the thief is amateur, or a pro.

I'm a cyclist. In heavily urban areas, there are amateur thieves and pro thieves. An amateur grabs something as transportation, or because it is easily available. A pro, on the other hand, knows what a bike is worth, because they are stealing it for resale for cash. They won't steal something because it's shiny or flashy; a brand new Huffy or Roadmaster is shiny, but worth next to nothing.

Same with computer hardware. Amateurs steal things that stand out. Pros steal what they know to be valuable.

Pros in both cases are also more adept with getting around security, be it bike locks or laptop security devices.
