Hey guys,
I have a Lenovo Y500 and the QUESTION I have is!!
Can I unplug the battery from the Lenovo and use and game with it? I have tried it and it worked fine, but I was wondering if this is bad for the laptop itself. My laptop is stationary so just having the laptop plugged in all of the time will destroy my battery, incase I do have to take it somewhere. I have already tried gaming without the laptop, no lag no nothing. Just wondering if this messes up the components, I heard that maybe it uses the AC and the Battery when gaming or something, but fps didn't really drop and temps didn't go over 85. Please help!!!!
Specs:
i7-3630QM CPU 2.40 GHz
2gb GTX Nvidia 750m
8gb
1tb
12 SSD

I play 3D games without the battery all the time. I don't want the heat to kill my battery's life quickly so I always remove it when gaming.

You can run the laptop sans-battery if you like. Won't really change the functionality of the laptop in any meaningful way as far as I know.
Just make sure not to unplug the laptop or otherwise lose power when the laptop's running, else you could possibly damage it (for example, the SSD). Always safely shut down, though if your home's power is unreliable (blackouts, brownouts, unclean power, etc), I'd just leave it on battery or plug it into a UPS instead. -
Alright thanks for the reply, my main thought was like the Watts and the amount my laptop needs when gaming you know what I mean? For example I was wondering if like if I am playing a High Demanding game, would it require the Power Support from BOTH the battery and the AC plug.

Only Macbooks and their puny 85 Watt MagSafe do that. Lenovo provides 120 watt adapters which is more than enough for full GPU and CPU power.

Oh, and theres no point removing the battery, since i game on mine all the time and the battery area stays cool for some reason. Battery acts as a UPS in case your power goes out.Jarhead likes this. -
But doesn't the life of the battery go down??? Also, I noticed that my laptop is stuttering, like the fan or something, when I don't have the battery in? Should I put it in or is this something else?

2. The battery eventually wears out over time, however if you use Lenovo's "Optimised battery health" it will go down much slower. User "Dragnoak" reported only 8% capacity loss after letting his Ideapad plugged in 24/7 for 2 years.
3. The stuttering might also be caused by SLI. Rollback your GPU drivers to the stock version, they fix some issues. -
It is only the 750m, it is not sli, I don't know why it's stuttering. It is really scaring me!!!

And now that I have the battery plugged, idle temp is 60 for cpu, and 50 for gpu
-
When it boots or turns on, the fans stutter or something. I hear like this tic tic tic tic noise sort of going on around my fans, when it turns on

It stutters when I turn on, it's not the screen or anthing. It's the sound of the computer itself. Sounds like it's something with the fans, it makes like a tic tic tic noise.
