Hi, I have a Lenovo 3000 C200 with a Celeron M 420(1.6GHz), it's very slow, barely usable and only good for basic use. Can I replace the CPU with an Intel Core Duo processor or Intel Core 2 (it was the choice originally offered by Lenovo)...without changing the Motherboard ? Thank you for your help.

From what I can see, the laptop should allow a Core Duo processor, since the 420 is based on the Yonah architecture. It may also allow for "Pentium Dual-Core" processors that are also based on Yonah. The Pentium Dual-Core T2060, T2080, and T2130 may work.
The only Core 2 Duo chips I see that might have a chance are the T5200 and T5300, which are also based on the same Socket M with the same 533MHz FSB. Later Core 2 Duo chips use Socket P, or Socket M but with a higher front-side bus speed that may not be compatible with your system. The T5200 and T5300 (should the BIOS accept them) IMO would be the best choice over a Pentium Dual-Core because they have full 64-bit support, so you could run newer 64-bit operating systems.
If you don't care about 64-bit support the Core Duo T2450 is probably the fastest you have a chance of running, with a clockspeed of 2GHz.
