Hello,
I was pretty happy ordering the R61 on June 1st with the est. ship date on 06/16.
To make the story short:
Called on 15th, they said it will be shipped on 19th.
Called on 17th, they said it will be shipped on 19th. Here it comes the 19th and nothing happens.
Called on 19th, and got the ship date on 21st. I am fine with that too.
Called today. The rude guy was keep saying "OK" after I told him about the Lenovo lies. He said it will be shipped early next week. The online status says est. ship date is 07/21.
So what the heck are they thinking?

These things happen. Enjoy your laptop whenever you get it and don't let it put you off lenovo
At least you didn't order a dell

My recent experience with Lenovo is that there IS a bit of a disconnect between their shipping estimates and what actually happens, but generally they err on the side of "under-promise and over-deliver", sometimes waaay to much.
This is a glitch in the other direction, but it doesn't sound too bad. I would guess that if you hang tight you will have your R61 soon...
...but I would also suggest that telling the customer service people that they are liars is not a good way to get your order shipped! -
I'm having the same exact problem. I ordered mine on 5/29 and got a 6/12 ship date. One morning it changed to 7/17, but when I called, the rep told me that it would ship by 6/19. Now it's changed to 6/21 as well.
Testicles. -
I read somewhere on these forums that there was a problem with their supply of batteries which is causing the delay. I'm not sure if this is absolutely true, however, given my laptop order:
Order Date: 6/15
Expected Ship: 7/21
Actual Ship: 6/19
The laptop I ordered was a T61p, so this could be why mine didn't run into the problems that you're having. Overall I think 4 days is very reasonable to build and ship this thing. You may want to try asking them what the specific problem is instead of just having them tell you it's delayed. -
so funny!
It's only a few days guys, relax -
I'm curious-- how many of you with the delayed shipping ordered a hi capacity battery? I know today if you configure an R61 with the six-cell you are told it may delay the order up to 4 weeks.
Sigh... I orded my R61 on the 7th, then canceled and reordered on the 13th -- with a six cell battery. Then it didn't say anything about a delay, but we know how that goes.
Still showing a ship date of the 27th. Two weeks seems to be the default. -
I'm in the same boat. Ordered an R61 on June 6, with an expected ship date of June 20 (today) From my recent experience ordering my T61p, I figured it would ship much earlier. But today my credit card was refunded. I called, and now it's not supposed to ship till next week sometime.

I ordered an R61 for a family member on May 26th. Was given the standard 2 week shipping date. 3 days later I received an email saying that my order was shipped. I figured there had to be some kind of glitch - no way can the laptop be shipping 3 days after I ordered. To my surprise the laptop arrived on my doorstep on June 2nd.
Mind you I'm in Canada and stuff like these usually take a great deal longer than say someone ordering and shipping to a US address. So getting the R61 this quick was totally unexpected. Coincidentaly, another member of my family ordered a Dell laptop a week before I placed the order for the R61, and that Dell arrived on the same day as the R61! -
So I called today again and the nice lady confirmed that they had issues with the 6 cell batteries. She also said that it will be shipped anytime till 06/27, but she didn't promise. Told me to call next week for more updates..

lenovo is always pulling this kind of crap.
I was part of the group that was delayed over 1.5 months (last year 2007, big thread about it on lenovoblogs.com)
after trying to reason with them (no help) I ended up call up the BBB. I got a call back from a person at corp who helped expedite my order and gave me daily updates.
Also (being part of the group that really got screwed over) they offered us a choice of
1) leather bag
2) 6 cell battery
3) extra charger
get 'em hell and then file a complaint with the BBB. then demand something for your time. I also got 5% off in addition to the extra 6 cell battery.
Delays seem to always happen when ordering with lenovo. They really need to push back their promised delivery time or fix their potential snags.
Never had any issuses with dell or hp in this regard -
Ordered an R61i in December. It arrived days BEFORE shipping date. Ordered an R61e in February. It also arrived EARLY! Both arrived within 8 days from online order.
Lenovo Customer Service is a bunch of liars
