Now I see why some folks have issues with Lenovo Direct orders.

I ordered an X1C i7/4G thinking I could add memory based on their poor web description.

After reading this forum I realized my error and canceled it via chat.

I received email confirmation before the chat was done.

    That was a month ago.

They just emailed confirmation that it shipped.

    After canceling X1C I ordered a T430s.

Two days later I was is a situation that I needed to spend many $1000's on very short notice. My job really depended on it and it was worth that security in todays job market.

So I felt I could not justify the laptop. So I canceled it. Waited 48hr's checked again 3 times. Ok, so they will ship it and I'll send it back.

Week later, shipment delayed a week.

Week later, shipment delayed a week.

It shipped a month after I "canceled" it.

This is just slime tactics. They are hoping you'll keep it.

I refused shipment on the T430's and it shows it was signed for on the return. I'd rather deal with the credit card company than Lenovo. If they were honest folks I would have accepted it and did the RMA thing at my cost of shipping. But I don't trust companies that are this slimmy.

    I'll refuse the X1C too.

I admit I love Lenovo hardware, but it's really tough dealing with folks that deal this way. I will explore other options when I'm ready and I might even consider an Apple. My friend did and runs windows on it exclusively. They have ruined my image of Lenvo.

If I do opt for a Lenovo I'll check ebay first, I've had better luck dealing with strangers on ebay.

If you need a ThinkPad within 48 hours, and a "Top Seller" model closely match your specs, it is better to buy it from an online reseller. (I find certain sellers on eBay mean business.)

Lenovo's end-to-end order fulfilling system is really bad. Some agents make comments about it while trying to access information. The situation portrays a severe disconnect in IT more than in business ethics.

The safest way is to accept the package and request a return, Lenovo will pay for return shipping. If you refuse the package a restocking fee will be charged. But I do agree that it is a bad situation for you, since after you have requested the cancellation it still took a month to ship, thus prolonging the period of time that your credit card is charged.

The instant you place an order with Lenovo, you cannot cancel it. You are welcome to call and try, but it WILL ship.

It's the worst e-Commerce system I've ever seen. I doubt the factory springs into action at 4pm on a Friday, when I ordered my X230t (I know the time is different in China). I ordered an X230t and called minutes after ordering and there was nothing they could do. They said they sent a request to cancel, and *if it ships* just call back and arrange a return. They know it will ship. It's impossible to stop it. They spin it and say "we send it to manufacturing when you order so you can get your machine in the least possible time." I doubt that the factory starts making it minutes after ordering. It probably gets pushed into a mass daily que and stacks up in line for production. Why can't you cancel 45 minutes after placing the reservation in line??

So that $1100 charge sat on my card for ~50 days. It took 2 weeks to finally ship, I received it, returned it and took ONE MONTH to refund. So, the whole ordeal took over 1.5 months to get my money back - all for an order I tried to cancel less than 60 minutes after placing.

I really didn't enjoy paying CC interest on that. Thanks Lenovo.

Their ordering system needs some work.

Edit: and to the OP - don't simply refuse the shipment. Lenovo will hit you with a re-stocking fee. Call them and arrange a note on your account for a 100% refund. Get the name of who puts this note on your account. Follow up once you track the return as delivered. If you don't follow up, they may never refund you. I had to call twice before after the return was received by the Lenovo return dock. They just didn't refund it until I escalated the case. I guess they hope you forget and they pocket the cash?

It's pretty shady, actually. Amazon has spoiled me.

    Indeed.

Been with Amazon since the very beginning. They know me. They take good care of me. They only want to please me.

That's what I thought, until I successfully cancelled orders twice in the past few weeks, in both incidences I contacted Lenovo the day after I placed my order, before the status is changed to "order received."
