Hi, I am looking to get a bunch of decent budget laptops for our company and am looking into the E455 and also the Dell Latitude 14 3450.
What do you guys think about the A6-7000 CPU? All our employees use is email / web browsing / light photoshop. I have looked at benchmarks comparing the AMD with other CPUS and it seems to be quite slow... Even the I5-4200u seems a decent step up...
do you folks think these CPU's are too under powered or are they just fine? If i were to get these laptops id get them with the 3 year warranty so we would be using them for the next 3-4 years.
or should i pay extra and get the Dell?
Its $665 for the config for lenovo a6-7000 - 4gig ram - win 8.1 pro - 3 yr warranty + accidental dmg.
and
$746 for the dell with I5-5200u - 4gig ram - win 7 pro - 3 year warranty
also if anyone else has any recommendations on PC's in the $600-750 range please let me know.
Thanks

For those tasks the A6-7000 will be fine, but as you noticed AMD processors tend to lag behind their Intel counterpart in terms of benchmark performance. Considering you plan to keep the system for at least 3 years you probably want to futureproof your investment as much as you can so going for the Core i5 would not be a bad idea.
If you were considering the Latitude 14 3450 you could also choose in place the Dell Vostro 3458 as there seem to be generous discounts going for this model at the moment. It's primarily designed for small businesses so you can have the 5th Gen Core i5 model, 3 Years NBD Onsite ProSupport and free shipping for $634.64 which is about $100 cheaper than the Latitude 3450 you were looking at. In fact you could use some of the $100 saving to buy additional 4GB RAM (~$25) to increase longevity in the long run.
Despite being the budget model for businesses Vostros are quite dependable in my experience, my father has a Dell Vostro 3750 and it still chugs along fine after 4 years without needing to use any of its 3 Years Dell Support which is a testament to its quality. -
That Vostro looks pretty nice. I am going to get one of each and check them out.
Thanks for the advice! -
Id skip 3450 as ive reviewed one few months ago. If possible id look into 5000 series. Maybe even a refurbished e6440/e6430 as there seem to be coupons floating around and it has nice 3 year nbd warranty.
E3450 is decent machine but in terma of build quality it left a lot to be desired for and shouldnt be called a latitude imo
If geting refurbs is a no go then id also give +1 to vostro line as they are cheaper. -
I would go Core i5 given typical business lifecycles. As you are trying often to get 3-5 years and running Photoshop. 8 GB RAM and 320 GB Harddrive. I'd go with those options on the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge or other ThinkPad line or a Dell Latitude E 6440. Which would serve your corporate needs well and wisely. Refurbished would help you get more machine for your money. And manufacturer outlets would get you comparable warranty to new.
