I just got my edge 420s, and its going back, even if there were no dead pixels ( there are 4+ dotted around the place), the infinity "glass" is actally just a thin sheet of flexible plastic. with little pressure you can depress the "glass" and touch the screen.

Infinity glass on the macbook's, samsungs, HP's etc is actually glass.

How can Lenovo call it Glass when it clearly is just a crapy piece of plastic that doesnt really protect anything.

Is it just a model i got, or do all the edge 420s laptops have this fake infinity"glass" screen?

never used an x220 so cant confirm. but infinity glass on a mac, samsung etc is a sheet of glass. tough and durable.

on the 420s, its a thin sheet of plastic extreemly flexible plastic, easily scratched and dented. Same transparent plastic sheets that my teachers used to draw diagrams on when using overhead projectors in school ( hope that explains it a bit better.)

Yes, the 'infinity glass' is not actually glass. I mention that in my review of the Edge E420s in the forums. It is just flexible plastic. I do not know what purpose it serves, other than making the screen glossy.

Have you seen the matte screen on the e420? Are the colors really washed out or should I go with the glossy? Its so hard deciding on which laptop to get and then figure out the screens,GC etc.

Are you returning your e420s or is the screen workable?

No, I have not seen the matte screens. The thing is, the glossy screen I have with the E420s does not really have the advantages of a glossy screen which is better saturation and contrast. It says glossy screen, but looks just like a matte screen underneath with a plastic (infinity glass) sheet over it. I highly doubt the colours or contrast is improved because of that plastic/glass thing.

Don't get me wrong, the screen is not horrible or unworkable. It is your average display, don't expect it to blow you away. The resolution is not that high and since I am coming from a 23 inch 1920x1080 monitor i guess am noticing the difference even more.

I would say its an average/standard display. It's just a little low on contrast/saturation.

Mine is going back for the following reasons:

    1. Dead pixels. about 3-4 dotted around the screen.

    2. Plastic sheet instead of glass. The spec says glass, i paid a premium for this laptop and expect glass. I get a thin sheet of plastic that I could easily apply to any laptop i purchase. Thats just cheap for the sake of cheap.

The plastic will not age well, that kind of thin flexible plastic scratches and dents easily. looks ok now but after some colleguges press the screen when pointing out something (you know the kind of people!), it will quickly look damaged and not worth the money they are asking.
