I have a X230T and the rubber feet on the battery were coming loose. I could fix it with superglue, but since my laptop is under warranty I decided to call tech support for a couple of new rubber feet. They sent me the wrong stuff. They sent some sort of kit that includes the feet for the actual unit and not the battery. I called again and this time they sent me a new battery (same type as the one I have). I called a third time to clear things up, but they gave me their parts department's number, which just took me to a menu option (check on part status, depot status, tech support, etc). After being on hold for ten minutes, I decided to seek the forum's advice.
Should I keep the new battery and send back the old one? Or should I just keep both? I don't need an extra battery (I'm already getting excellent battery life), but it's nice have an extra one, no?
Before I forget, I bought my laptop from Lenovo, so I'm worried if I keep the new battery that they'll eventually charge it to my credit card. Then again, according to the return shipping label that came with the new battery, the old battery would ship to IBM's recycle center so the old battery is targeted for recycling/disposal. Why couldn't I just dispose of it locally? Would they even track this sort of stuff?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I don't think sending the battery is in error. I'm guessing that they don't have an FRU for the battery feet, so they couldn't send those to you individually even if you wanted it. I would definitely keep the new battery and return the old one.

i had an error with western digital, they sent me 2 replacement hard drives instead of 1. it took them a LONG time to get my process through, so i took it as their appology for taking so long

Hmm do they really expect you to send back the old battery when they send you a replacement... strange. I guess they are doing the environmental thing.
First there is no way they can charge your credit card without your approval, that is equal to stealing and you would be entitled to get your bank to reverse the charges. Don't see them doing it.
Regarding the battery, you could keep it and simply wait and see if Lenovo miss it. I doubt they will worry to track your old battery back for disposal, you could always say you threw it in the bin.
You could ask them about the potential error, then see what they say. Comes down to a personal choice but I doubt much would happen if you decided to keep the new battery, you always have the option of sending it back if they do question it. -
