Hi there!
Ive been running my laptop into the ground for the last 6 years and desperately need a replacement as its overheating constantly and switching itself off! Not looking for anything fancy, just something fairly standard that can cope with the usual basic type tasks and will last a while. From the research I've done a Lenovo seems to be the best option. I found this - Buy LENOVO Flex 2 14â Convertible Touchscreen Laptop - Grey | Free Delivery | Currys which is just slightly over my budget, but seemed to be highly recommended as a good budget/general use laptop. If it was a good fit for what I'm after then I'd be happy to go for it. But if anyone could offer some advice on whether that model would be suitable or if something else would be a better bet would be much appreciated.
Heres my details:
1) What is your budget?
£500 (which is $850)
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Netbook; 10 screen or less
b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12 screen
c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
Either thin and light (13 14) or mainstream (15 16)
3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
UK
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: None specifically, open to most of them really.
b. Dislike: Acer (heard bad things about their customer support, but happy to be convinced otherwise)
5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
Prefer not.
6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
General use internet, word/office, web design, music, a bit of light gaming etc.
7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
Mostly leaving it on my desk.
8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
A few. Stuff like the latest Football Manager.
9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Im not sure what the average or standard is, but Im sure whatever that is will be fine. Im mainly going to be using it within the house, so always near to a power source.
10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
Happy to buy online without seeing it.
11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
Used mainly Windows, so I guess 8. Not linux.
Screen Specifics
12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. Everyone is different. Some like really small text, while others like their text big and easy to read. Click here for Screen resolution information.
Not so sure on this, but I think WXGA / 1280x768 or WXGA / 1280x800.
13) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen?
Always been happy with Matte/non-glossy so quite content to stick with that.
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
No.
15) When are you buying this laptop?
As soon as possible.
16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
As long as possible!
Notebook Components
17) How much hard drive space do you need? Do you want a SSD drive?
Im not entirely sure about this and could do with suggestions. I have a huge music collection, but am thinking that it might be better to just keep that stored on an external drive. Then I dont need a massive HD. As for SSD, again Im not sure. Seeing as Im not too fussed about gaming is it that necessary? 500GB? 750G? Suggestions welcomed!
18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?
Not essential, but would quite like a DVD Burner. Am happy to buy an external one though.
Thanks a lot!
