I've been checking into getting a Lenovo, but one thing that puts me off them is that, unlike most other companies now, Lenovo makes no mention of a free-fall-safety thing for their hard drives.

Is there a reason for that, or do they just don't bother making them?
Or am I just missing something?

Has anyone had issues with their hd or dropage?

    Thanks in advance!

There is active protection thing whenever you move your hard drive, it will stop the hd for about half a second.

Many hard drives have the feature built in, if you know where to look. Lenovo doesn't have to "support" this feature for you to get it.

Trust me, Lenovo is all about safety features. There is a built in active protection system on the T61's and I'm sure all the new ones include it. Aside from (not officially) great fire survival, water damage survival, and crush survival from the stories I have heard from people.

The program is pretty cool. On my T400 it's called ThinkVantage Active Protection System.

Clicking on the icon by the system tray (one can toggle to make the icon disappear, don't worry,) will bring up a window that lets you suspend the HD protection system (although why anyone would do that I have no idea.) OR, another tab lets you see that the program monitors the system's position. (Tilt the laptop a little it'll show up tilted and moves in real time)

    Already saved me once.

well i would think the suspend option is to help places like a train, or constant vibration.....Also you can save battery life, when seated at a desk
