    Hi there,

I'm trying to get the WebCam to work in my brothers G530 laptop. I tried the drivers from Lenovo/IBM website. The WebCam shows in the control panel but easy camera says that we have to switch the WebCam ON.

Few people are saying to press FN+Esc to switch the Cam ON. Pressing the Fn+Esc mutes the speakers but doesn't switch the Cam ON.

    Any suggestions?

Is it just a generic USB one? Also going to move this to IdeaPad subforum, you'll get more hits there..

    thanks Tsunade_Hime

The webcam is integrated. It is connected to the motherboard through the same cable as the screen.

I mean is the webcam showing up on USB controller? Alot of webcams are like that. Sometimes you have to update chipset to get webcam to function properly.

Are all the drivers installed properly? Did you install the corresponding software? You may have to dredge through some of those not so friendly sites to get webcam software.

Maybe worse case scenario is to reimage the laptop with the factory restore partition to rule out drivers vs defective webcam.

Right now it is a bit difficult to experiment with the laptop. I bough this laptop and handed it over to my brother after two 2-3 weeks. His is a bit busy lately so I can't borrow the laptop to re-install Windows. According to what I found in Lenovo forum (the manufacturer forum) this problem happens only with Win XP. The laptop was originally sold with Vista. Eventually I'll borrow the laptop and install Vista (so I can ensure that the camera is OK), and then try to fix this issue with Win XP; well if I can.

My brother tried to get the camera to work. The weired thing he said was that after installing easy camera and restarting the laptop, a message prompted saying that a new harddware has been detected. This message also required the re-installation of the drivers and the restart of the laptop. It was like the drivers were never installed. The message kept prompted until he selected the option "do not install new hardware" (or something like that) in the box that kept prompting after every restart.

Both my brother and I are very familiar with Windows, how to install it and how to install the drivers :). My brother is suspecting that there is a sort of incompatibly issue between the driver (i.e. easy camera) and Windows XP. I was hopping that an ownwer who have downgraded from Vista to XP can confirm or deny the existence of such an issue.

Since the camera is not installed properly I don't know if it is a USB one! The camera is detect in the hardware manager under 'others' with a yellow exclamation mark. Although detected under others, the camera is detected as 'easy camera'. Somehow it is detected and not detected at the same time.

When I had the laptop I used it with my own harddrive. When I installed the drivers (still under Windows XP), the drivers did install properly but I couldn't use the camera software. The software was complaining that the camera was off.
