Might as well start a thread for this machine.

3 things are keeping me from recommending this machine. Unless new revisions have remedied these:

    1. Screen shows flex in construction. Unlike what the Notebookreview.com review of the machine states:
"The new cover is every bit as strong as the last one, preventing any screen distortion even if you hit or flex the back of the screen."

This isn't true for the revision of the machine I have worked on. There was a flimsy feel and definite flex distortion. Construction for entire machine in fact is not a solid as the review states.

    2. Alps touchpad is a nightmare. Unusable after 3.5 months of use. Many budget laptops with this pad are having trouble, so this isn't just Lenovo. A simple google search will get you to seriously consider not buying a laptop with a cheap Alps trackpad in it.

    3. No card reader on the base model. Didn't the G530 have a card reader? I could personally live with one fewer USB port, but the omission of a card reader in a modern laptop? Even a budget laptop should have a card reader.

These problems add up to a deal breaker. I can't recommend this machine to anyone. I don't know if the G560 has these issues, but after working on a G550 I would seriously steer people away from the Lenovo G-series. Perhaps for the initial run of these machines Lenovo used the superior Y550 chassis, but then switched to a cheaper chassis for later revisions.

So what are people doing with the G550's they have. Any trackpad fixes? Ideas why Lenovo has failed quality wise on this machine? Is the G560 just as inferior? Why is the solid machine reviewed on this site not the same as the flimsy machine my friends received?

Anyone else care to share their experiences?
