My "previously enjoyed" G550 came with wiped HD loaded with Linux, so there was no recovery partition. I've run some tests with various versions of Windows 7 and now have reverted to the original licensed Home Premium 32-bit version.

I work with audio and one of the bane of advising people about modern laptops is that many have the old "Stereo Mix" option disabled in hardware. This rules out, for example, most Sony laptops for some audio work as well as for pulling audio off the internet. I know of the various workarounds and the right-click in the recording screen.

What has surprised me is that this basic function seems to be missing on my G550. I have tried the audio drivers from the retail Win7 DVD, allowed all 34 Microsoft updates, and tried installing the "Smart" (what they?) audio drivers from the Lenovo site, but still no stereo mix.

Has anyone else got this feature on a G550. It's totally depressing if Lenovo has been leant on to remove it, as it will make me wary of recommending any of their other machines.

Is there really no-one here with a Lenovo G550?
