This concerns my wife's Lenovo system, which is so old that might find itself mentioned in the Old Testament. When the system has been shut down correctly in Windows, the screen goes black and everything seems to be powered off and happily docile. Ah, if only it were so. The system turns itself on at random intervals, even though the lid is closed and it has been correctly shut down. The system usually lives on a shelf and does not get knocked or touched while this feat of dark magic is occurring. The power cable usually remains attached although it is not always plugged in to the power outlet.

    System has 4GB of RAM and a 2.3GhZ 430m i5 (Arrandale) processor.

The system works fine otherwise and trying to get my wife to give it up is like trying to remove my child's favorite toy from them in order to wash it and purge the various smells and dirt: Almost impossible. I'd appreciate it hugely if anybody has some input and thank you for reading.

Edit: Checked BIOS and there are no options except for choosing the boot order and adjusting the time and date etc...

The most common reason a system would power on seemingly spontaneously is Wake on LAN, which should be a setting in BIOS. When it's enabled, the computer will boot whenever it detects a strong network connection. Once disabled in BIOS, that should stop the random booting up.
