    Hello

Lenovo has a G570 laptop on some weird sale that renews itself (e.g. claims to be over on Nov 2 and on the 3rd the date changes to Nov 6), at least for now. The system costs $600, with free shipping I think, and it seems to me like the specs are pretty good. I don't need a new laptop at the moment, but I might be needing a more powerful pc in half a year or so, and I'm wondering if I'll find something better for the same price at that time.

    cost: $600
    specs:
    2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M Processor ( 2.30GHz 1333MHz 3MB )
    Intel Integrated HD Graphics 3000
    8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
15.6" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
    Integrated 2.0MP Camera
    750GB 5400
    DVD Recordable
    6 Cell Lithium-Ion
    Lenovo BGN Wireless
    HDMI (out)
    Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR

What really caught my attention was the huge amount (for the price) of RAM. Is it better to have more RAM, or opt for a laptop with less but a better processor? Also, I assume DVD recordable refers to DVD-RW, right?
    Thanks in advance!

I would say, it all depends on what you do? Basic office tasks, email, that spec is overkill for your needs. Plus most IdeaPads if not all are constrained to 1368x768 which is a pretty low resolution for laptops under 14".

It maybe better for you to fill out the What Should I Buy? form and post it in the WSIB subforum.

Although I do a lot of office tasks and browsing, I'm in science and programming, and I might be running mathematical simulation or modeling software. In that case faster is better. The model is Essential G570, not an IdeaPad, and it has a 15.6" screen.

I'm basically wondering if the price/spec aspect of this deal is good enough to get now, or if it's better to wait until I'm actually doing the more demanding tasks (~6 months).

I'll fill out that survey as you suggested.
    Thanks for your response!

the processor you got there hits the sweet spot for the price/performance. Having 8 gigs of ram is not a bad thing.

$600 dollars is okay for the G570, you probably could get it slightly cheaper at the years end depending on the global economy and exchange rate.
