I was chatting with an HP rep earlier today and asked if the HP Elitebooks offered any hard drive protection feature like the Lenovo T series; I was told they do, and in fact, HP's 3D Drive Guard offers 3-dimensional sensors while Lenovo's are only 2-dimensional that only protects the hard drive if the laptop was drop straight down. Can any Lenovo guru help confirm if this is true with Lenovo's hard drives?![]()

It's 3-dimensional, there is a section of the utility that shows the state of the laptop, tilt it back the picture shows it going back, and vice versa for every angle I've tried, I'd assume the HP rep was just doing their job, trying to crack on the competition.
edit: I am wrong, look lower. -
Thanks Hawkeye!

Sorry but Lenovo's accelerometer is 2-D...read this page and you will understand why.

Unless your laptop is going to fall up, or to the right, a 2D accelerometer is more than enough.
Edit: actually, on second thought, the 'up' case would also be covered... -
Let me quote the interesting part:

Ummm. I don't think that 2D or 3 should determine whether you buy a notebook computer. Look at independent reviews. Consider what your main criteria are. Mine are that the machine runs cool and quiet, and has a great screen and keyboard. Personally I'm not a huge fan of HP, but at the lower price point they're probably better than your other options. If you are reasonable and do a regular disk image backup of your drive and backup critical data regularly then whether the HD survives a fall is not really something I would spend a whole bunch of time worrying about. It seems a pretty insignificant feature: nice, but way down on the list of what's important. Your chances of the notebook being stolen are probably higher and a lot of good 3D data protection will do you. Back it up. It solves both problems and many others.

When SSD becomes the norm, I do not think we have to worry about accelerometers anymroe.
LOL, I just read the article and he said the same thing:
