Lenovo does a pretty thorough job of packing the laptops. I've orderd three thinkpads and all three arrived in pristine condition.

Plus they are built to military spec. They can take a beating :D (I am not saying they do but, in case they do... ;))

Ideapads are nowhere near as durable as Thinkpads from what I hear.

I must concur at least about poor customer service response. I've been on the phone waiting to talk to Customer Service about an order that should have been canceled but was not and I've been holding for 25 minutes. I decided to hang up. When I was dealing with Sony, I got a person in like 3 minutes tops. It didn't matter if it was Sales or Order Cancellation.

Not impressed with post sales support at all I spent 90 mins both today and no closer to a resolution, a confused supervisor promised a call back tomorrow. Maybe Lenovo is one of the few companies that can figure out how to actually call people back?

45 minute minimum hold times don't encourage me any that they will.

I wonder how they stay in business with such terrible customer service. It is almost not worth it to get a ThinkPad or a warranty if I have to wait hours and hours just to get someone. My problem is that they shipped an order I cancelled.

Thats normal (at least for Lenovo.) I cancelled an order the day after I placed it but, it still shipped 2 weeks later and my card was charged. The return went without a hassle though.

I got someone after 50 minutes. That must be a record for them. I was caught off-guard when I heard something different from the standard "Your call will be answered in the order it was received" and the crappy Kingdom of Keflings music.

Just curious, are you guys calling CS from the US? The reason I asked is because every single time I've called I was able to speak to someone within 10 minutes, I even got hold with them on a Saturday (the person wasn't able to help me though because credit check dept is off).

Interesting. Must be timing or something. The one time I called one evening (Pacific time, USA), I got a person on the line in about 10 minutes.

As a side note, technical support for Thinkpads and other Lenovo laptops are handled by different contractors; IBM handles Thinkpad support and is generally regarded very highly. I'd imagine sales isn't split though... but I'm not sure.
