Anyone know the cost to fix the hinges of a t61 outside of warranty? I've heard its more than a simple loose screw.

it would cost at least 200 to 300 dollars. The cheaper option is to get the post warranty warranty extension (Thinkplus) for around 200 dollars for 1 year basic depot.

or just do it yourself for around 50 to 60 dollars.

I would suggest doing it yourself as well and you can get T61 hinges for much less than $50.
Do a search on ebay and you will find T61 hinges at very low prices.
Download the hardware maintenance manual if you don't feel comfortable about disassembling your T61. -
I agree with the others, DIY is the way to go for cost effective repairs on the hinges if out of warranty. For the 14.1" Widescreen there are two different FRU's for the hinges on the T61 but are basically the same end product, you only need the one as they come in pairs. FRU: 42W2451 is made by "Kato" while FRU: 42W2673 is made by "Reell". I'm not sure on the 15.4" but should be listed in the specific maintenance manual on the LCD parts list.
Should both be hard to find for some reason, then on the 14.1" T61 the other alternative is to use the T400 hinges (either 43Y9643 or 43Y9644) which can also mount well on the T61 too. I tried this myself (43Y9643) as a test and the T400 hinges fits smoothly on the T61.
