Ok I have had my X230 IPS for a week now ... and strangely enough I am getting eye strain from it even when turning brightness down. I notice the difference when I am on my Samsung netbook and the X230. I hope my eyes will adjust but is there something different in IPS that sensitive people may notice or react to ? Also worst case scenario can a Lenovo dealer put a TN panel in it should this not change ... as in yes I know the quality is much lower but IPS no use if my eyes don't agree with it LOL. Just asking ... we'll see what happens. Thanks

IPS technologies and qualities do vary. Backlight technologies and qualities do vary. Low-end products do not usually give you total satisfaction. As I said, being "IPS" does not necessary mean being "awesome."

It's your money. Try not to spend $1000 and then make mental compromises to compensate for the shortcomings.

You want to turn down the contrast control, in order to lessen screen glare. For one thing that will help to lessen the glare from a white background.

The brightness control is used primarily to set a satisfactory black level.

Odds are you already know this?

Yes re graphics stuff... just am trying to get used to it every day a bit longer ... have fiddled with settings and may be better. I also am sensitive to whatever chemicals get released when laptops are new so I put it somewhere in another room playing movies and doing NORTON scans so it gets hotter so the chemical smell etc comes off it ... seem to remember this happening with previous laptops ...

Is your refresh rate properly adjusted?? Mine came with 50Hz and it had a terrible flicker making it impossible to use my laptop more than an hour. I have changed it to 60Hz (freq of the AC currency in my place) and it became all good.
