I am looking at an Aluminum macbook and the Lenovo IdeaPad U330...How is the build quality on the Lenovo IdeaPad U330 the plastic looks really cheap. In general what is Lenovo like in service? Quality? Never owned an IBM/Lenovo of any sort. How are they in general versus apple?

    U330 is likely 899?
    macbook al is around 1399.

price difference is 400, about 40% more than u330.

You pay what you will get.

Lenovo is absolutely brilliant. If you are going for a PC, go with Lenovo. I've had numerous questions in which I've called up customer service and not once did I have to wait more than 20 seconds to be connected to a rep. And they speak English! The build quality of all Lenovo's are excellent.

ideapad is not as good as apple AL because the material matter. ,( thinkpad x301 is much better than macbook air.) but better than dell, even the E4300, E4300 just like a plastic toy ! CHEAP , CHEAP , CHEAP

Apple is great as well, they make solid products, but it's like comparing apples and oranges (no pun intended). If you want a OS X, well go for a Mac, if you want a PC, go with Lenovo.

I keep mine in a 14" sleeve in a backpack with physiology and engineering books against it. I also bike with my backpack and I admit I'm not really too gentle putting it down on the ground either. No damage to report of. I imagine the Macbook would do just fine too.

The U330 is also a little lighter but a bit thicker too. But that's all negligible.

So like xenon says, it's more of an issue of Vista vs. OS X.

Yes, but neither of the laptops being tossed around are really business laptops. I agree with the windows vs mac osx issue though. Unless you just want to look at a mac and put windows on it for...some reason.

The U330 is constructed of Magnesium-aluminum alloy, both strong and lightweight. The overall feel is impressive and high-quality, in my opinion. The glossy piano black lid is a little shiny, but overall the look and feel is upscale.

The build quality of the U330 is above average. It uses a Chicony keyboard, which has a similar feel to the T series keyboards. The laptop is built by Wistron, one of the big three notebook manufacturers.
