I wasn't sure at first if this model should get it's own thread or if it should get bundled into the existing Y400 thread, but after looking at the past "owners" threads I decided to make one.
I'll post some general info that we have so far, but even Lenovo's site appears to be full of errors so this post and thread will probably be edited and correct as more info becomes available.
Y410P site: IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (US)
I ordered the base 1600X900 resolution model (59369921) for $809 via my company's EPP portal and got my ship confirmation tonight. I plan on running some benchmarks (suggestions for which ones) and battery tests. I'll do those stock, but right after I will be replacing the HDD with 240GB SSD, and possibly upgrading the RAM as well.
If you have any questions about the machine, I will try to answer it once I have it. If anyone else has it ordered/shipped, please feel free to post info, comments, first impressions, etc.

Has the ultrabay graphics been released for it? Also when you get it can you check if it has a msata slot or not? thanks
-
I found some screenshots on a Thai forum of the base Y410P with the 1366 x 768 screen (Had to rehost the pictures because his host is slow):
TEST Lenovo Y410p HAWELL Intel i7 4700MQ & Geforce GT750M
This model seems to have Optimus enabled but then again, it may be the same as the previous Y400/500 where this function is disabled for the U.S. models in favor of SLI. GPU temperature looks good, but the 4700MQ temperatures are a little lofty, hopefully a thermal repaste can bring it down closer to low to mid-eighties. -
-
thanks for info!
-
Sorry guys, that person's image hosting is very slow and it took quite a while for one of the more important screenshots to fully load. I was assuming it would be Optimus since his system was able to show both the Intel IGP and the GT 750M as active display adapters.
I do not recall the Y400/500 having any physical switchable graphics button/function, so I am assuming the notebook is mandating it automatically via Optimus. -
Here's a good explanation of the difference from the Intel community:
Nvidia Optimus vs switchable graphics misinformation
Here's a link to a Lenovo document regarding "switchable graphics" and Optimus on their Thinkpads.
NVidia Switchable Graphics adapters vs NVidia Optimus Graphics adapters - ThinkPad T410s, W510
I assume the Y410P bios should be similar and that will probably be the easiest way to tell if Optimus is an option or even enabled.. -
Interesting, thank you for the information. I will probably order the base model with the 900p screen as you have done by the end of today as well since all my other options are either not financially sensible or have some sort of issue. For $900 including tax, this notebook seems to be quite a bargain, and I look forward to seeing how we can make this notebook run cooler.
-
I just received my Y410P(900p with 24g SSD cache single 750m model) and I can tell you that the integrated Intel graphics can be turned on manually via the Nvidia control panel>>Manage 3D settings>>Preferred graphics processor. Confirmed working by testing in Diablo 3. Vsync on and caps FPS at 60. 1600x900 all settings on high except for shadows set to medium. Anti aliasing on.
GT 750m (plugged in): 60 FPS
GT 750m (battery): 12 FPS
Intel integrated graphics 20 FPS (regardless if plugged in or on battery, but you have to switch to it manually before you run the game)
I checked with GPU-Z and it definitely drops GT 750m to 135MHz on battery. Intel graphics stays at 0% gpu load when unplugging charger while running GT 750m. If you start the game with it switched to Intel graphics in the Nvidia control panel then it will put the gpu load on Intel graphics.
Not sure how Optimus works or how to change its settings, but I am relieved that at least games CAN be playable if you use the integrated graphics while on battery power. -
-
If only there was a way to force it to switch to the Intel graphics automatically when on battery. Maybe later I will take some pictures. I am at work right now. By the way, the screen is glossy, not matte. No glare problems with indoor office lighting with screen at max brightness although I am not sure how bad it will be with sunlight.
-
Thanks dm1user. How's the viewing angle of the screen? Washes out easily or comparable to a typical matte LCD monitor? I just placed an order and the shipment status shows it getting to my doorsteps this coming Friday. Currently deciding on a SSD to drop in it.

I know widi didnt work with the y400/y500 but will it work with the y410p/y510p? Im sorry if this is a dumb question
.
-
Also, it it easy to access the interior to upgrade? How's the fan, and how's the size and bulk? -
"Its a Glare Wedge model
So its a mix of both Anti-glare and glossy"
whatever that is. im noob! -
I guess I will find out one way or another tomorrow. I do wonder though if they just have different screens and have not realized their error, either in production or on the site. -

Appreciate this thread and had to join up as I'm expecting my 410P soon. Ordered a base model on the one day it was available @ $720. Not really a PC Gamer but more a deal hound so...basically knew I was going to be upgrading the disk system regardless. And so a question...since it appears that these new models uses NGFF rather than mSata and it doesn't appear as though there's much to choose from currently, which I think is strange, I'm considering ordering an SSHD, specifically the MomentusXT 750GB @ 7200rpm (the last 7200 Seagate plans to make according to reports). I'm aware there is a newer model SSHD @5400rpm with a different NAND config but figure I'd go with the older disk as it's cheap and has a 41/2 star review amongst some 600 plus reviewers. This gives me both better performance than the base, and means I don't have to worry much about storage or keeping data on a separate drive down the road. I'd go with a large mSata for OS and the stock 1TB for simple storage if I could but doesn't seem to be in the cards...maybe I'm wrong though. Also...was curious if anyone knows if this is a standard laptop drive or some slim type UltraB form factor?
Thanks to all for posting info on this beast (this and the 510p as well). Much appreciated. -
i have to ask what ultrabay comes standard
and where can i find more. -
What's the best time to buy this? Selling for $849 on Lenovo Barnes&Noble. Do you think I should wait some more time for prices to drop further, or is this the best deal I can get for the 410p? Thanks
-
Is this a touchscreen device? It's currently the only thing causing me to hesitate on buying this, I reallllllllyyyyyy want a touchscreen device.
-
This is not a touch screen device, so if that's a huge deal you should look for a different laptop.
I think right now is a good time to buy, I just used my EPP to get the 1600x900 resolution version for $819 before taxes w/ free shipping.
By the way, my original "estimated ship date" when I purchased was the 20th, but then my confirmation email said the 11th, and it actually shipped yesterday with 2 day air shipping! Which means it's gonna be here tomorrow!I Ordered on the 10th and it'll be here the 13th...talk about good customer service!
-
-
I also don't think they have released any ultrabays for sale yet, but keep checking their website, they could come out for sale at any time -
-
On another note... A member on Slickdeals posted a quick impression of their Y410P and claims that it is indeed 5.5lbs, which seems odd given it's slimmer profile in comparison to the previous Y400 model. If that's the case, I wonder what makes it a full pound heavier than the MSI GE40? I went ahead an order the MSI GE40 from Best Buy and plan on comparing the two. The MSI is definitely more expensive, but I have better financing through BB and get RZ points and 60 days returns. -
you guys should make an unboxing video please.
-
-
I'll make a video tomorrow night and post it on youtube
As far as the screen goes guys, when I talked to a Lenovo rep during my order, I specifically asked "Is this screen a matte screen, and is it different than the previous generation (y400/500)?"
His answer was: The screen is NOT a matte screen, but a gloss screen with a NEW matte finish. This finish is different from the previous generation y400/500 and is supposed to be a big improvement compared to those screens.
I can't wait to get this thing, I've been daydreaming about it since I placed my order! lol -
Please forgive me if I am adding this to the wrong thread but I have ran into an issue with my new y410p. I bought an OEM copy of windows and an SSD from Samsung, intending to do a fresh install. I have finished the install and everything is working great except the graphics driver for the NVIDIA G750M card that it came with.
Both Lenovo and Nvidia have said that they don't have the drivers. My only option would be to pay Lenovo 69 bucks for the driver disk which I don't want to do. Its not only the money, I just don't want all that crap the computer comes with and also that I know that drivers out there somewhere since the computer shipped with it.
TLDR --- looking for the Windows 8 64-bit Nvidia driver for this computer which has the GT750M for doing a fresh install of Windows (OEM disk from Amazon) -

I got mine today. So excited to open that bad boy up. I just bought the single gpu version of it and I hope the ultrabay comes out in a month or so because I really can't afford it at the moment. lol.
-
Picked mine up and opened it up and have a few quick initial impressions...
Seems pretty hefty for the size, so probably 5.5lb spec is accurate, will confirm later. Build overall seems pretty decent. Everything appears to be flush and no loose parts, especially the battery. The plastic does not feel overly cheap, but it's still plastic and there is some creaking in some parts. Screen is definitely glossy, no matte look to it, but it also does not reflect badly either. I'm heading out to dinner, but will play with it more later tonight.
-
Just got mine and I gotta say I'm really dissapointed with this glossy screen. I like to write code outside and I was really looking forward to doing so without a load of glare.

-Edit:
Accidentally posted the same this on the same thread - Sorry. -
On another note: anyone else getting stuck in a black screen when you alt-tab or close games? -
-
Ordered my Y410P yesterday. Went for the 1600x900 screen and SSD version. Got my tracking number today so I expect it around Monday. This will be my first 14" laptop, first Lenovo and havent had an nVidia graphics in quite a while. Seems like a great deal for the price.
Almost went for the Y510P since I am used to the size but really I wanted something a little more portable. I hope I dont regret it. -
I've looked many places, and called support,
sorry to bomb the owners thread... can someone tell me the rough volume or dimensions of the power supply. the last gaming laptop I purchased had a massive brick and so i'm concern the same is true for y410p.
thanks

Great thread!
I love the idea of the ultrabay. My plan is to use it in SLI mode (when the 750M ultrabay becomes available) for gaming, and replace the 750M card with a fan and leave the integrated graphics to do the work the rest of the time.
I do a lot of travelling so this customisation would be perfect. My questions are - will the integrated graphics be sufficient for smooth movie play and secondly how long can the laptop be expected to run watching movies using integrated graphics only? I have seen up to 5 hrs quoted, but not sure if this assumes the 750m is being used for some tasks or is a best case scenario with no graphic card use or CPU intensive tasks. Can anyone confirm? -

Internal SSD slot is a 42mm m.2 NGFF. It's no longer a mSATA.
There is no way a 60mm NGFF will fit, there is a capacitor in the way. -
Im kind of in the same boat as some of these other guys. The specs on this laptop for the money are pretty crazy...having said that, I am a little perturbed.
I needed to install Windows 7 on this for work reasons. Well, I was kind of an idiot and I wiped all the partitions (yes, including the restore ones - Windows was acting funny on the install because of the GBT format). Anyway, come to find out there are no drivers currently available for this thing for windows 7. The chipset driver is missing which keeps the gpu drivers from installing. The LAN driver is missing. Its nuts!
So now my option is to wait until they come out with the drivers, or buy the restore DVDs. They did mention that these would restore all the partitions. Can anyone confirm that? -

Save that to your desktop and replace the original one in the extracted directory, and run the setup again.
I just got a tracking number for mine and it'll be here Friday, so I will be putting in a 480 GB Crucial M500 and a pair of 8GB Corsair DDR3-1866 RAM modules along with Windows 7. -
Can anyone on the Y410p run the deviceQuery tool from the CUDA SDK and paste a screenshot of the output? File is attached in zip file. --> View attachment deviceQuery.zip
What is the manufacturer/model of the optical drive according to Windows Device Manager?
Thanks for confirming the M.2 SSD slot, sucks it's not MSATA... if I decide to keep it I'll have to part with the old Crucial MSATA SSD in my Acer TimelineU M5.
I can't tell how long the Crucial M.2 SSDs are, but I'm pretty sure they're not 42mm or even 60mm long, blah. Doing a rough estimate based on proportions of images of another 42mm one and stock Crucial images for their M.2 drives, I get something like 96mm for the Crucial drive lengths, which is probably wrong, but it's definitely either 80 or 110mm long.
Does the BIOS present options from booting from the M.2 SSD drive? -
