I was planning on doing that and if that fails filing a PayPal case. They should rule with the buyer on that type of case.

Just placed my order and my pocket is now ~$400 lighter. Asked for pics of it before ship. We will see what happens now.

Wow you seriously overpaid for that combo. It can be had for <$300 on Lenovo.com when (if) they make it available. I hope you do get the correct GPU and getting it before general availability is worth the price premium.Jobine likes this.

@lafius
You got pretty lucky, I ordered mine in the evening of 4/9 and its ship date has been bumped from 19/9 to 22/9 (arrival from 26/9 to 29/9). (900p, no SSD model)
Jobine, I'm also interested in undervolting or even underclocking, so I'll look around when I get my y410p. -
I remember earlier in the thread someone talked about installing a new wifi driver for better connectivity, but I don't remember which one they said and I am not going to sift through the whole thread looking for it. Does anyone know off the top of their head?
-
16.x (16.0?) was released not so long ago. Rumor has it it fixed the issues in 15.x
Still on 14.8 here. -
Is there an official Lenovo driver page to download the 16.x drivers? Or do we just attain it via the Intel website?
I've also read the reviews from the official website and I wonder why some have WIFI issues but not others.
I hope the most recent notebooks that they've manufactured have the 16.x drivers to avoid any potential issues. -
Can someone with the 16.x drivers confirm that the WIFI problems are gone?
-
My ship date says January 4, 2014 =((
Cheapest model. They said it is a mistake but it has yet to be corrected.... -
I would have strongly recommended getting the 900p screen. But oh well, 1366x768 is not that bad for 14 inch.
-
Every driver I have tried hasn't fixed the problem, but I must just be a "special" case. Most people said rolling back to 14.8 or getting the latest drivers fixed their problem.
-
The 16.x drivers haven't remedied your issues?

Just wanted to know how much heat it generates on integrated gpu 4600hd ?
And how much can its batery last on 4600hd while browsing without wifi (i mean using a direct dsl cable) or watching movies on low screen brightness...?
And any games which 750m cannot handle even at low setings on AC...? -
And jobine did u try any PS2, PS3 emulator to play any games like naruto or wwe?
-
My own CPU goes up to 91°C when pushed to full load (all cores 100%), with the GPU off. However, i am currently testing on how i could undervolt my cpu, so far i have been able to reduce it by 7°C, which is very great.
I have gotten over 4 hours of browsing on wifi, mid brightness power saver mode, using the Intel GPU. I bring my Y410p to campus so yeah
The only game the 750M can't handle on low is Company of Heroes 2, because it is a very poorly coded game and won't run on anything lower than a GTX765M, and this game also doesn't support SLI.
I tried Gran Turismo 4 on the PCSX2 emulator, however the FPS was wonky, because this game requires 3ghz+ (turbo) to run, and the Turbo was being wonky. However, that was 3 months ago, and i was using a lower power plan. As for PS3, there is no ps3 emulator, so there is no way for me to test that. However, you can play PS3 games for PC like CoD/BattleField/etc without lag/problems. -
Thankx for a detailed answer.
Isn't 91C too much without gpu?
And how much does it get hot when on Nvidia and intel full power?
And yea definitely would love to know some easy procedure of lowering heat ! -
I dont know how to do repasting and stuf and also i am a bit afraid lol..
-
Cooling Pad/Ultrabay fan/Undervolting
-
Plz suggest some cooling pad.
Isn't the ultrabay fan useless as it is in the wrong side of lappy?
And how to undervolt? -
Thankx for a detailed answer.

Sorry for double post
-
Before I sent my last Y410p back I was using the 16.x drivers and they worked just fine. However, I downgraded to the model without the 24gb ssd cache and I'm using the 14.8 wifi driver now just cause they work and I didn't see the point in getting the 16.x if both work fine for me.
-
So I just restarted my computer and went through a windows update. Now my wifi is working.
I wonder how long this will last for.... -
Running stable -84mv undervolt. Temps reduced by 7°C
-
Thanks for the response. The only reason why I'm hesitant of purchasing a Y series notebook is the wifi issues. I currently own an HP computer that has similar issues.
-
Get it anyways, and buy one of these as a backup. Amazon.com: Alfa 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi Network Adapter With Original Alfa Screw-On Swivel 9dBi Rubber Antenna: Computers & Accessories
-
Just avoid 15.x drivers. 14.x and 16.x work fine.
-
Thanks for the replies. I'm unsure whether I should purchase the 24Gb SSD drive though. Sorry for the rather noobish question but is an external program needed so programs could use it for caching? Or can it to this out of the box?
Lastly, can all programs stored in the computer cache to the SSD? -
The ExpressCache software is included out-of-the-box if you buy the SSD model. You can also download it from Lenovo's website.
-
Thanks for the quick reply. Now wondering if I should consider the 1080p y510p model. I wonder how the 900p y410p version stacks up when compared to the full HD y510p model in terms of LCD contrast, brightness and sharpness. I'm a photographer and would like a quality screen for photo editing. Though then again, the y410p is more portable to begin with. Less of a nuisance if I decide to reenroll and take it with me to campus.
-
The contrast on the Y410p is 460:1 versus 600:1 for the Y510p. Go for the Y510p.
-
The display specs of the Y510p can be found in this review here: Review Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
Note that they reviewed the matte screen version, which I don't think is sold anymore, so the panel on the current Y510p may be different. It's an above-average notebook screen but definitely not something I'd want to do serious photo editing on. You probably already have a good desktop monitor which would be much more suitable. I do my photo editing on the Dell U2412M connected to my desktop. If you must do it on a laptop, I would look elsewhere at something like the HP mobile workstations with the DreamColor display, which are absolutely breathtaking but you will be paying a (very high) premium for them.
Where did you get this number? Did you measure it yourself with a calibrator? -
Notebookcheck. Using the y500 screen as reference to the Y410p.
-
Where is the Notebookcheck review of the Y410p?
They don't use the same panel so how can you guess the same numbers? -
I recall seeing it be 460 somewhere, i just don't remember. Think it was on some messageboard. I'll just calibrate it if i can't find it.
-
Thanks for the replies.
Too bad there's no Blu ray drive available for the Y510p though. I plan to order through the official website but the option's not there. Would love to view movies on that screen! -
Blu-Ray Upgrade. How to Add Blu-Ray to your notebook. - YouTube
This video shows how to install aftermarket BD drives. Basically, you want to remove the faceplate of your current DVD drive and then attach it to a 3rd party BD drive and you're all set! -
460:1 is the contrast ratio listed by Notebookcheck in its review of the Y500. I don't think it's a coincidence. Individual variations exist among panels and among production runs so the only way to get accurate numbers for your particular screen is to measure and tune it yourself with calibrator hardware. These manufacturing tolerances are the reason it's not ideal for you to use someone else's ICC profile, although to be fair most laptops have such crappy factory calibration or none at all that even using settings copied from someone else should get you much improvement.

Can someone please tell me that from where can i order this laptop ? I want it here in Pakistan.?
-
if u want it from the lenovo US website u have to have an american credit card with a legit US address ( not a reshipping company address ).

Hello all, for the past several weeks I have been browsing laptops and looking for one that can match my moderate to high gaming needs as well as incorporate well with Win8 in that it will have a touchscreen. I realize this isn't a high priority for most gamers, but I consider it to be pretty sleek and integrating for daily use.
I first found the y500 with i5, SLI 650M on sale from newegg for $850, and recently a drop to $800 with promo. Although I've found potentially better deals this one is still tempting due to the SLI and amazing price.
Next I looked on the Lenovo site and found the y410 - i7, upgraded GPU in that I considered I could SLI the 750m (has there been any new information on whether this is ever going to be possible? I've read on this thread that mid-sept, but here we are and no new info from Lenovo. No SLI for 755m, but maybe for 750m?) I may end up buying this one before the end of the LENOVODEALS coupons tomorrow, and making sure I can a written statement from a sales manager that if they don't SLI, I can send it back for full refund. This is the model I'm looking at @ $899, but just saw someone buy a refurbished model from their outlet store (how often do these deals come up? I just looked and saw no y410s) IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (US)
Over the past week I really started thinking I'd go for a touchscreen. Saw this guy linked on here - XOTIC PC | ASUS N550JV-DB72T Touch
Only negatives appear to be price(to be expected), GDDR3 instead of GDDR5 that is in the y410 and y500s, and lack of an ability to upgrade via ultra-bay.
I know this post kinda got off topic from the y410, but any feedback from you guys would seriously help me out in picking between the two. Basically, if the y410 gets SLI for 750m, I'm sold.
Thanks! -
Well, that ASUS is quite overpriced, for that price you could probably snag a Clevo W230ST or the sorts. Y410p sli is not out yet but Y510p sli is here if you need one:
XOTIC PC | LENOVO IdeaPad Y510p (59375625)
Also, if you want a lower price on the Y410p, call Lenovo and haggle with them. Make up things like "i'm just a few dollars short" and "i saw a HP that was better priced" and stuff like that.

Can anyone tell how to undervolt?
-
Thanks for the haggling advice Jobine! I spoke with a Lenovo sales rep today and got an additional $40 knocked off the LENOVODEALS coupon. I held off on a purchase, deciding to wait till later today(9/18) but got them to send me a quote I could use in the future.
After I got back home and looked back over the prices I could get a Y410p with 900 screen w/o 24gb SSD for $820 total tax included. What I'm thinking of is taking the 1TB out and getting a 240gb SSD in the next few months (do you know if this is this possible Jobine?), then adding a 750m to SLI and make it a beast here again in a few months to a year.
