    Hi folks,

Something weird is going on with the Lenovo Y450. It is advertised on the Lenovo site (tech specs) and on this very site as being 4.6 lb including battery.

I just bought one, and it is a whole lot heavier. Not just "oh this is a little heavier than expected" but "bloody hell this thing weighs more than my 3 year old Dell 14" laptop".

I called Lenovo and had the Returns guy insult me for half an hour saying that 4.6 lbs was just a starting weight for the Y450 range. I finally got it through to him that the tech specs list my exact model (41896LU) at 4.6 lbs, although I think it had more to do with me demanding to speak to his manager.

Eventually they agreed to a full refund.

What do you think is happening here? It's a shame because the laptop looks great on paper, dang I'd still buy it if they actually had one that weighed 4.6 lbs.

Sadly I didn't have scales to weigh it exactly, I was only able to compare it to progressively older laptops in the house with known weights above 4.6 lbs and go hmm no, still heavier.. There's one guy on the lenovo forum reporting that his Y450 weighs 5 lbs, but I reckon mine was more than that too.

You should have bought a small scale and weighed it for proof. Perception doesn't mean much.

Did you get it with a 9cell battery? If there is an option for a 3cell they gone weight it with the 3cell. 9cell will add another 0.5lb

I think you got lucky they gave you a refund. Its fair game. Da base system is a certain weight and you have a customized NB so of course it weighs differently. the only reason they gave it to you is they were not bright enough to know this. i would have rejected your claim.

@BaldwinHillsTrojan: Who said it was customised?

    It was the default configuration.

When the spec sheet says model XYZ weighs x pounds, and I purchase model XYZ, something is wrong if it doesn't weight x pounds.

The advertised weight is generally that of the lightest possible configuration. T400s is advertised as 3.9lbs...I weighed mine to be exactly 4.4lbs. I have noticed similarly higher than expected weights with all my other machines (dell 5400, dell xpsM1330, asus z71 etc). I must say I was a little dissappointed to find my T400s to be over 4lbs as one of the selling points in all reviews etc was its sub 4lbs weight, but IMHO adding an extra 0.5lbs as a general rule of thumb might be more realistic. In the end, other aspects of the machine 'out weigh' its weight...no pun intended.

They refunded it without you even weighing it or claiming a #? Kudos to Lenovo...

Not that Lenovo has made any effort to advertise it, but it's pretty well known from reviews (including the review here) that the MultiTouch option adds half a pound to the base weight of the T400s.

Agreed...as I said...one has to take the advertised weight with a grain of salt an be prepared for the weight to be a little off, based on config. I mostly attributed the increase in my T400s weight to the multitouch...I'm reassured to hear your observations. Thanks for sharing.

So what laptop are you going to buy now, considering there is nothing comparable out there?
