I’m going into my first year at university as an engineering student and want something that can handle stuff like CAD, Solidworks, and Matlab. I won’t be gaming or anything just want a sturdy laptop that can preform well for my next 4 years at university. I came across the Lenovo IdeaPad on the Microsoft store and was surprised to see how great the specs were for the price. I never thought of the IdeaPad as a laptop for an engineering student so I was wondering if I could get some thoughts from other people on wether this would be a good purchase. Here is the link to the specs:[IdeaPad ]( https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/p/l...ft_web_collection&activetab=pivot:overviewtab)

Might want to fill out the FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum. That would help us flesh things out. Generally speaking a workstation will offer the better build quality you want and GPUs more suited to your needs, but it hard to help without more information. Good luck and welcome to NBR.

The latest GTX1650 should be packed with DDR6 memory. The latest CPU should be the 10th generation Intel 10750H with slightly improved clock rate.

Can a Gaming laptop perform SolidWorks?

According to this review here... "Yes, *with some caveats*..."
Read thru for details.
At that price, it's not worth to pay that much for the previous/last generation CPU+GPU. What i see majority of the cost goes to the 4k touchable screen. But do u really need that?
For a better price with better specs(with exception on the screen), here is a suggestion to a bigger inch INTEL make to your initial preference, https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/Legion-5i-17/p/82B30003US
In comparison to that model you've linked, u're getting roughly Cad$230 in savings. Use that savings to buy u 4yrs worth of product warranty which could help u go thru ur academic years ahead!
