Hello every one,
I am here in Canada and ordered my Lenovo U330 on September 02,2008 .Finally after a long wait of more than a month I was able to receive it at my USA address on Oct 05.And now I got it here last week.I was thinkiking to upgrade my notebook since long, before ordering U330 I rescarched a lot and consulted with some of my expert friends and concluded that U330 was the best option specially with new intel processor DDR 3 Ram etc.I was totally unaware of launcing of new macbooks.During that period I bought two old model macbooks for my son and daughter. It was my first experience of buying Mac computer product and since last month I found those the best compairing with I have used like Sony,Dell etc.Battery life of old model macbook is for 5 hrs on a power save mode thats why my daughter is very happy as it was main issue with her Sony laptop giving her only 2 hrs of time while using at University Campus.
Now My new Lenovo U330 Ideapad is here sitting on my desk in the box since last week and I am still debating that should I open it and start using it or sell it and go for new macbook.
Its a new thread I am going to start and hope that will get good respnse to decide.

I faced a similar dilemma. Decided to sell the lenovo u330 (unopened) and purchased the macbook 2.4. Paid $500 more, but still happy with my decision. I'm fairly confident during resale a year or so from now, the macbook will hold its value more than the ideapad. Don't get me wrong, the u330 is a beautiful machine compared to other pc options out there, but still no match for the mac os and "coolness" factor. I also really like the much faster booting and shutdown of the mac.
-
do you guys sell laptops after a year ?
look at the specs, and with mac - if you like the MacOS thats it......... -
If you paid the same price for the two, I'd go for the new Macbook Aluminum.
While I'm happy with my U330, I cannot recommend it to others until Lenovo resolves issues with the boot-up jingle (Apples have one too but at least its monotonous and low-key) and decent but not spectacular 3.5 hr battery life.
On the other hand, if you got a great deal on it (the price disparity is $600 between the two for me), keep the U330. -
-
Yup. I'd go with MB too.
-
At $600 dollars more, I wouldn't. You could almost buy another U330 with the cost difference or use that savings to get her another laptop in a year or 2.
-
I don't understand that how peoples are calculating $600 price difference.U330 should be compaired with lower specifications macbook as it has a same processor P7350 and you will be paying only $300 more but will get 160 gb HD.$600 difference is with the higher specifications macbook for which you will get 2.40ghz processor and same size of HD but with backlit keyboard.

i got my higher model u330 for $820 before tax and after live cashback. i have zero problems with it - no bent chassis, beautiful screen, 3.5-4 hr battery life, no software problems (i uninstalled most of the bloatware)
if i opted for the lower config mac, that would be $500 more and I would be losing 160GB of hdd space, 1GB of memory, switchable graphics, hdmi out, and my valuable mouse buttons (that one was a joke, kind of)
HOWEVER at the current price of the u330, with no coupons i would definitely consider a macbook, especially if you're a fan of OSX.
if there are any worthy deals, go with the u330 simply based on specs -

wow, how did you get the higher model for that great price. All I can find it for is like $1061.00 after the current 15% discount that expires tuesday. Can you give me some advice. At the current price, I am still debating between it and the macbook. But for anything moderately < $1000, I think I would choose the U330.

I have seen these in person... The macbook screens are really, really bad... do not go apple unless you can swing the pro..
If you even move your head the slighted bit, the colors change.. -
On Amazon, you can get the U330 for 1000 USD, and the lower-spec Macbook for 1230. That's 230 bucks difference, that's a lot, almost a quarter increase in price. Unless you have to have Mac OS X (software reasons, ie. Final Cut, Logic, Shake) there's no point in going with less ports and a higher price.
To give a funnier example, here in Poland, the U330 actually has a 2.26 GHz P8400 and costs 300 USD less than the baseline Macbook, which has a P7350. That is an insanse premium to pay, unless, like I said, you really need Mac OS.
I'm going for the U330 myself. Plus it's great-looking while not dragging too much attention to itself if you're going by looks alone.
