I have one. But upon changing my hard drive and clean installing windows 7 i went to some issues that caused me to do an RMA here's the thread...

What it said was my battery needes to be replaced upon startup of my new hard drive. But when I did put back the HDD that came with the laptop it didn't say that at all.

Sounds like a software and driver issue, not hardware.

That's what I was thinking too. Well I still requested for an RMA just to be sure. Is there anyone here that knows the correct order the drivers should be installed?

That sounds like a problem I had with my Sony Vaio CW. When I re-installed Windows 7, I didn't install some power management/battery program from the drivers page. Until I installed that program, it would give me an error like the one you're getting.

The problem appeared after I installed Lenovo Energy Management. I had to install that since the On Screen Drivers is included in that program.

Well, if you ever want to get rid of your u400, I'd trade my X460 for it :)

Because the U400 looks awesome :D I also have this problem. I never keep a laptop more than a month. I've had at least 25 this year. I don't game as much as i used to, so my GT 540M is overkill. It scores 8800 in 3DMark06.

I haven't registered my MSI yet, so the warranty could be in your name.

Wow. How much do you spend each year? Or do you always return them and just take a restocking fee hit? Eventually you'd get blackballed by most retailers.

I always buy them below retail, so I break even or make a few bucks.

Heh, I thought that was amusing to read. No NBR trackpad issues reported so far though, right? I actually hadn't realized the U400 has no SD card slot. Lenovo seriously screwed the consumers on this one, that's friggin unforgivable on a laptop like this. The battery life too has me concluding I must look elsewhere.

Trackpad's not that bad. It's actually quite responsive. Engadget must have used an older driver. But yeah if you are doing an upgrade for this system forget about it you are most just likely gonna break it even if you are careful!

Dell XPS 13 touch pad drivers work miracles for the U400. install the driver, disable pinch to zoom, reduce touch pad sensitivity a few notches, enable smooth scrolling in your browser and there you go, a near MBP quality touch pad experience.

Has anyone had any luck with Windows 8 on the U400?

I can't speak for the actually user experience, but I believe it should install fine. Windows 8 is similar to Windows 7, so all of the drivers should be compatible.

I heard that some people have run into complications attempting to do a clean install on the u400.. I guess we'll have to see.
