    I need help here..
I wanted to buy a laptop for my uni life but I'd like light-gaming + I need it to be portable since I always bring my laptop to college.
I want to know what actually differs the Y480's GPU (GT 650) and Y580's GPU (GTX 660M).
I was attracted towards the GPU of Y580 but I prefer 14" which is lighter.. According to my research, most of the online people saying that both of the GPU are almost the same but I'm still confused :p

If not mistaken, it says, overclocked GT650 will be almost the same as GTX660M.. So does that means overclocked GTX660 will have higher performance too? Which laptop should I go?

Here's the list of Y480 and Y580 available specs in my country:
If the GPU are almost the same (even require overclocking), I will just go for the FreeDOS version which is cheapest among the all and I will install W7P myself :)

Extra question: Is it typo from the website I copied, or is there really a i7-3630QM? I can't find it at the Intel website.. Anyone can tell me does it affects a little?

Conclusion: should I go for Y480 or Y580?

Sorry if I posted at the wrong section, I posted it since both the laptop are Lenovo and I should ask Lenovo-geeks to help me with this :p

    Hey mate

I'm not malaysian but I live there and 2 weeks ago I bought 2 Y480, one for my fiancee and one for my friend with this config :
    Y480(5934-1372), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)[JBL], 4GB(1600mhz), 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, W7HB, 2 years international warranty

Except the price is actually RM2560 for one so you could save a few bucks.
I'm not re-seller but I looked at almost all the shop for the best price, Lowyat plaza and sunway pyramid are the place to go.
If you need more details let me know.

and for you question it all depends of your budget, but keep in mind that the screen on the Y480 is not full HD.

    Thanks for the reply!

About the price, it's not fixed though.. That's the market price and I can still bargain it though..
Price is not the problem for me, as I've ~RM3000 budget which is more than enough :)
Bluray is useless for me, so I will be either buying the non-bluray RM2999 Y580 or RM2599 FreeDOS Y480..
The decision now I need to make is the GPU and weight..
Does really GTX660M worth it with that price? I still hate the weight though, cause I need to bring it to college almost everyday :(
You mean you prefer more weight rather than it actually ease you to be portable?
    P/S: I'm lazyyyyy lol

Btw, what's it about the HD or non-HD? Does it really affects?

I had the Y480 for a while (had to RMA it for a defective screen) but I liked it a lot. It was nice and slim so it was good for carrying around. However I had the US model so it came with the 640M LE which I overclocked a bit till I could play Skyrim on ultra with 30-40 fps. If resolution isn't a big deal I'd say 650m is good enough and you'd get a lighter laptop to boot. Just be careful of overclocking, it an overheat your laptop. I wouldn't mess with OCing that much on the Y series (since they heat up pretty fast).

Full HD or the 1920x1080 resolution on the Y580 means a crisper picture than the 1366x768 resolution. If you don't watch a lot of HDTV or use HD monitors all the time, then you probably won't notice the difference as much. However if you compare side by side there is a nice difference. Plus with a 1920x1080 resolution, your desktop will be noticeably bigger (since the bigger resolution allows for smaller sharper objects on the screen at once). Here's a link 1080p Does Matter – Here’s When (Screen Size vs. Viewing Distance vs. Resolution) | CarltonBale.com.

In short it's up to you. Just remember FHD allows more detail when you watch movies or play games. It's really performance vs. portability. If you don't mind carrying a slightly bigger and around only 1lb heavier laptop (2.2kg vs 2.7 kg) then you'll have a stronger machine to use when not moving around.
