Just purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y530 40512U, I got it because for the price I couldn't find anything better, and while I've always like Thinkpads, the only thing that came close was a maxed out SL500, which was about $200-$300 CAD more, and it had a weaker graphics card, poor speakers, and the SL series is known to not have as much build quality as the better models (ex. T400, for $400-$500 CAD more). Only cons that I can think of are the screen could be higher resolution, and less glossy, but other than that I couldn't think of any other reason not to get it.

I'd been using a Thinkpad R40 for a while now but, it's been falling apart. First, the LCD inverter died, then I accidentally ruined the LCD cable in the process of repair, My uncle gave me a Dell business Inspiron 2200 to use while my R40 was broken, and that was even worse, until I finally fixed my R40 about a year later. Now the screen hinge completely sheared off when I dropped it by accident, and the thing is just getting to be too much of a slow piece of junk. I was lucky and found a somewhat old Gateway at my work and I managed to get it for $80, which is a real steal, but it's too big and still not that strong, so instead I'm just going to sell it to my dad instead.

I originally wanted to get a Thinkpad W500, until I realized that it would be a bit ridiculous for my to get it now when I'm still in High School. Then I moved down to a T400,then an SL500, then finally I looked into the Ideapads and decided upon the Y530.

Although getting it is a bit of the pain in the a** for me, living in Canada, which for some odd reason STILL can't get any Ideapads yet, except for the old ones. Thankfully, I have relatives in the US that are going to ship it to me when they get it, and it shouldn't take longer than 2 weeks, hopefully less if I get priority shipping, but that won't be cheap.

Anyways, I'm curious to know what fellow owners think about the laptop, what tips you guys have, any accessories I should get, etc.

I think it would be better if you rename this lounge for all Ideapads or Y series.

All the models in the Y series are pretty similar except for the screen size.

One of my laptops is an Ideapad and I've set up other Ideapads for some friends, I think they're great notebooks.
