Hi guys. first post? i think haha
well i got my Lenovo Ideapad Y550 4 days ago and encountered some problems that I believe is VERY serious.
Occasionally, (happening 4 times already), my keyboard, all of a sudden, stops working. NOTHING works. the light for Caps lock does not come on or off, the sound buttons on the right do not respond, but the power button shuts the computer off b/c i did set it to "power off" when pressed. If i restart the laptop, it works fine. I'm wondering what the problem is. Hope you guys can help. THX!

Wait, you say nothing works - when it locks up, does an external keyboard work? What about the touchpad?

touchpad works, meaning that the mouse cursor moves. The usb ports work if i put a external keyboard or mouse. Only the keyboard will NOT respond that is attatched to the laptop.

I'm thinking this is probably a hardware issue. Ask Lenovo tech support for a replacement keyboard.

same problem with brand new lenovo Y460. what a POS. Called customer support and they suggested returning it to factory settings. I am going to try to return it. and never ever ever buy another lenovo product. unbelievable, they should be ashamed to sell this crap.

My "crap" works great. Lenovo isn't known for the Ideapad line, rather the Thinkpad. Hopefully they won't charge you a 20% restocking fee.
