    Hi folks!
I'm interested in buying between these two laptops. I can't decide which is better. I know the y510p has the new chip "Haswell", but the y500 is in for a cheaper price. Which do you guys think I should get?

Help me out I need suggestions!

    Thank you,
    Koque

Y500. Easily. Cheaper price for a glossy screen (which I prefer) and 8gb less on the cache drive.. The CPU is the same but a new gen and some new things that a benchmark may show but no real use will show...
Use the hundreds saved to buy a mSATA SSD.. plus Y510P is NGFF (supposedly) SSD which isn't widely available until like July

I so prefer matte screens (I tend to use mine in the daytime with windows behind me etc) and so a Y510P would be the choice easily.
Plus the 4700MQ is as powerful as a 3740QM so its a deal stronger than the stock CPU in the Y500.

If you do any long renders or CPU intensive tasks you will appreciate the difference.

The NGFF SSD is a sore point for me as well though...gonna have to wait for yet another computer standard to take off and get traction...
The standard does allow the option to (eventually) get a 800MB speed SSD in the future though, something the mSata standard can not give unless in RAID.
    Choice is yours bro.

Processor advantages that the y510p has over the y500 may not exactly be a selling point now either. According to the long y510p thread, numerous users have reported that their y510p (SLI model, but perhaps others too?) have been shipped with the slower 4702QM processor (clocked at 2.2ghz) and that this "change" in specs is not a mistake.

If this is the case, I may actually consider getting a y500 again. I returned my y500 thinking that the y510p would be a lot more superior. Now the y500 seems more favourable to me with its cheaper price, similar performance (3630qm vs 4702qm), and msata slot. Even when ngff ssd's come out, according to another user who contacted different ssd manufacturers (e.g. sandisk and crucial), 128gb may be the largest capacity upon their release. Also, it is very likely that it will be pricier than msata ssd's.

Indeed, with Lenovo's decision to downgrade Y510p's CPU, Y500 has some advantages over Y510p. The performance is identical and Y500 edges out with msata slot and being cheaper.

For me, however, after cancellation fiasco, I chose MSI GE60 over Y500.
