    Hello all,

Lenovo has just updated their X61 line with Penryn processors. The laptop is now configurable with the following processor options:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHz FSB)

It's interesting that's they're not offering this laptop with the T9300 or the T9500 with 6MB of L2 cache.

Even though this is a generational upgrade for the processor, the actual L2 cache is a reduction (from my X61 I just received with the C2D T7500 which has 4MB of L2 cache)

    Thoughts? Comments?

I go to school in Montreal, but I ordered my laptop home to Philadelphia. My parents just received it yesterday... but I'm in a bit of a sticky wicket as to how they can get me the laptop up here as soon as possible. I've heard that I'd be charged up the wazoo if I ship it here because of some sort of duties Canada would make me pay. This would offset the great deal I got on the laptop (and no, I couldn't have ordered of the Lenovo Canada site and gotten a deal anywhere close to this) Anyone have any idea about this? Thanks in advance.

It's interesting the prices hasn't increased with the new Penryn. I wonder if this would mean that prices will not be going up when the Montevina chipset comes out in the summer.

In the coming months, market will be flooded with 8-9" cheap laptops copying Asus EEE. This will lower the demand and prices of full size laptops.

I don't think they will impact full size laptops in anyway. That's simply my own thoughts. These cheap ultraportables cannot replace a full fledged computer.

Do you have any evidence that support your claim?

I didn't say a cheap ultraportable is a replacement for a full laptop. For those people who just need a surfing laptop, they will have plenty to choose from in the coming months. They don't have to get a full laptop like they used to. So that will reduce the demand for full laptops.

If you want to avoid the customs... Freeport! Just 25min From Mtl then get rid of the box, cross the borders and say you've nothing to declare or you bought jeans for 20$ whatever :) Are you at McGill?

Yes... I'm in my final year here. Freeport sounds like an interesting proposition. The thing is, I don't have a car. I'm sure I could use one of my friend's for this, though. Have you used it before? Is it reliable? Thanks for the suggestion.
