I have had my T400 with LED back lighting a few weeks now. In that same period of time I have been noticing light headaches sitting at the computer. I assumed it was just the quality of the screen. So I went to work on my old Toshiba Portege again which had CCFL screen ... result NO headaches. Then I did some research and it seems the Lenovo LED screens flicker all the time when on battery or turning down brightness ... well truth to be told I cannot work for a long time on the T400 LED screen and yes in case you are wondering I had an eye test as well, and it came back fine. It seems that the screens Lenovo uses have an issue with a certain frequency range. If the know of this then they should correct it immediately. Looks like I will buy a cheaper X200 with a CCFL screen ... my eyes hurt from looking at the T400 LED screen and I assume the X200 series LED screens will be of the same quality. Has anyone here experienced the same?

Sory to hear of your problems. Not meaning to diminish them, but I've been using my T400 with LED backlight for a year and a half now and have never experienced what you have. I use a CCFL Dell for work and my T400 for school, so I'm switching every day.

My company's standard laptops for the past four months are LED backlit T400's and T500's. Some of my staff have new laptops and I've yet to hear the first complaint.

Again, I don't mean to make light of or trivialize your experience, but it seems to be the rare exception.

I have a similar issue with my X300 that I've had for about a year. I'm not sure if it's caused by the incredibly lousy contrast of the display, the size and resolution of it (13.3" 1440x900), the LED backlight, or perhaps a combination that is to blame. I can look at a 19" 1280x1024 CCFL-lit screen all day at work and then at home without a problem, but the X300 kills me after an hour or two on the weekend. It's not a real strong headache but it's uncomfortable. The pain is an issue even if I'm watching a movie on it, so don't think the size/resolution is to blame.

Could it be related to drivers/settings? (probably not, but could be worth checking).

if you can't fix yourself, i think you should ask Lenovo warranty to step in and make the necessary repairs.

You could be onto something there. With my W500 I had to go back to win7 32bit from 64bit due to unbearable extra glare. As all software settings and hardware were the same in each case, I wondered whether it was the specific interaction between the software graphics driver and the screen. - i.e. a graphics driver problem

I had this problem with WXGA+ LED (LG model) backlit panel on regular T400. My eyes would get extremely tired working on it. Surprisingly I dont have any such problem with WXGA+ LED panel on a T400s. I dont think its an LED issue, but rather a particular panel being non-compatible with your eyes for whatever reason.

Zenit I tend to agree that it's not all the LED panels but I came across a post from someone who said the then current lenovo LED screens and also some of the mac LED screens were too slow in frequency when on battery or turning down brightness. I think he/she talked about 90 Hz compared to the 400 Hz or so on other brand LEDS. Some people's eyes including mine it seems pick up on this slower frequency LED. I definitely cannot sit for more than 30 min on the T400 with the LED screen and I am now thinking of going to an X200 with a CCFL screen, and sacrifice screen brightness for my eyes, the strain is very noticable. Can anyone tell me how much the difference is in brightness between a old T61 and a CCFL X200 ? My T61 was too dim but no headaches. T400 I put on 80& brightness but then I do get headaches....

If you are still within your return period, I would seriously consider exercising that option.

There is no return option in Holland ... bought is bought. And when you say something they simply tell you that there is no fault with the screen. I mean how can I prove it in any case? My co-worker who uses the machine more does not feel any headache so the point is mute ... must be the LED technology. I am very sensitive to cell phones as well, hardly ever use one. In the same way I am sensitive to glossy screens. So I need a matte screen and now it seems a CFFL only ! I am a dying breed... I hope the X200 or X200s with the CFFL WXGA screen is OK enough, and that will be it. I have looked at other brands. Funnily enough I don't have the LED screen problem with a small Samsung NC10 notebook. Beats me ...

None of the new ThinkPads use CCFL (that I can tell). Sell the machine you have and cut your losses.

I have a T500 LED and have not experienced any headaches or eye strain.
The ambient light condition might have an effect. Try increasing or changing the ambient light in the room.

So it could also be the wireless signal from your laptop that is causing your headache?

Ckx Nope I never use wireless unless there is really no option ... as you may have guessed yes I am allergic to wireless as well. I always have my laptops plugged in so I am not one of those who can sit at a coffee shop and be on line on the WIFI. Most i will do there is pick up my mail, get off, respond to what is needed, go on - send - get off. Nope in this case it really is the screen. I may need to move to the UK for a few weeks and order some laptops to a friend's place...since they do have a return policy there... I would buy a few laptops and compare keep the best one. Can't do that here. Looks like I may have to get a laptop soon cause all the new X201 series etc are all LED screens.
