Best solution I know is get Lenovo to install another motherboard. You may even get a better cpu with it. Just don't tell Lenovo what happened. How long have you had that one?
-
A bit over a week, called up Ultimate Support and explained that I updated to the latest bios and combined with Windows 11 installation something went wrong and the laptop won't boot. They offered to just send a brand new replacement since it is within 30 days. Which I gladly accepted, but still would prefer to fix this one if I can. I've already done all I can on my end without replacing the motherboard. Don't want a tech to take apart the whole laptop, so I think this one is just toast.
Edit- the system still works, the video card has just been bricked and nothing shows on the screen. Somehow I entered the bios and blindly found the "more settings" option and reset to default but didn't solve the problem. I don't know of any way to force integrated graphics to take over without being able to see anything on the screen.Atma likes this. -
I was looking through the parts list for mine a few weeks ago. A new motherboard is $3300.
Probably a little cheaper for yours since a different cpu and probably why Lenovo will just send a new laptop.

It's because I broke two retention tabs when removing it to do the wireless card and RAM upgrades. I know you can't see or feel anything from it, but having the new panel will make me feel better.
A lesson that some others on this forum would do well to learn. -
I bent the bottom on my C940 a little and ordered a new one. $75 for that little piece of tin. I forgot about the serial and stuff on it. A little disappointing the new one is blank, but I took a picture of the old one.

L7i can handle DCS in VR with reverb G2 smoothly which is pretty incredible (did not try heavy multiplayer map). Did not even optimize settings because I didn't have to at least in instant action/singleplayer on the ground. It is possible that desktop 3080s max out the 10gb VRAM and the 16GB helps on laptops more than the essentially desktop 3070 core components hurt. Wish it was like pascal where notebook was +/- 10% desktop... all hardware these days is going in the pentium extreme edition direction... I suspect Alder Lake will have minimal laptop gains beyond battery life.
-
Firstly, I'm sorry to read about bricking your laptop. All I can say, maybe the new one is even better. For example, how much were you able to push the mem clock on the 3080? I'm up to +1391 on my L7i.
Regarding XTU on W11, it worked for me without doing anything. I can UV using XTU or ThrottleStop. Maybe it is because I also installed a package with all VisualC redistributables? It could be that. You can find the package online, it's useful to install all of them in one-go.jlp0209 likes this. -
I know you applied new paste and more, but you also won big time on silicon lottery, right? I also have the 11980HK and using TS (set SpeedShift to 0, undervolted -50.8 mV) it can only sustain 4.8ghz all core.
I can set the multiplier on 49 on 8 cores active for 4.9ghz, but then the frequency fluctuates much, in benchmark and in games. With 5.0 stable all-core I would be happy seeing GTA IV finally tamed

I'm very stupid, should never have messed with GPU vbios. They are out of stock again so they gave me a full refund. I really like the laptop and hope to re-order again and not mess with anything next time around.
I was able to OC the GPU to +150 core and +1600 memory. It crashed at +1800 and was fine at +1700, so I settled on +1600.
Thanks for the tip re: VC redistributables, I'll try that next time assuming I get another L7i. I got XTU to work by downgrading to W10 and then upgrading back to W11.Atma likes this. -
Lenovo is having a Halloween sale. I bought Deathloop, Mafia Definitive Edition, and Red Dead Redemption 2 for $95.79 . MSRP $159. I had $101 in Lenovo rewards to spend. I just had to pay the tax, $6.47.
Supposed to be more deals today.

Nice, a lot of other places like steam, epic, and etc are having halloween sales too. Best time of the year to catch up on gaming with all of the sales

Those other places don't take Lenovo rewards though.

I managed to get an order through for the $1529 RTX 3070 Legion 5 Pro Walmart special. Hopefully it will actually be fulfilled.

I was going to ask which store you found it at because I've been to a lot of them in greater Chicago/Rockford and had zero success. My online order moved to phase 2 so barring any unforeseen issues, it looks like it will be fulfilled. As such, I've submitted an RMA request for the all-AMD L5 I have now. Despite its massive RAM and storage, there's no way I could pass on the Pro.
-
Nice, sounds like it’ll get fulfilled. I got it at a store in NW Indiana via brickseek method and it showed up as in stock on the Walmart app, but later got cancelled.

I checked my order this morning, and it showed as shipped with a scheduled delivery date of tomorrow. Even better, Walmart apparently adjusted the price down to $1399. So the next time they have a shipment available at $1529, it may be worth ordering that way. If nothing else, you could probably go to a store and get a price match.
-
Wow, that's awesome, nicely done!! Hopefully the deal will pop back up soon.

After a FedEx screwup, I was able to get my Walmart special Legion 5 Pro from the depot today. Interestingly, it shipped directly from a store instead of a distribution center. Out of the box, I'm a bit disappointed that it shipped with Windows 11. That being said, a lot of the bugs I encountered with a previous Legion 5 from last month appear to have been fixed. What's even better is that this laptop's stock RAM appears to be the faster x8 variety as Zentimings is reporting lower secondary values. The laptop scored over 13,000 in Cinebench, which is the same result I got when I put my x8 32 GB kit into the all-AMD L5 I recently returned. The screen is also perfect with no noticeable backlight bleed, and thermals are decent as well. Idle temps in balanced mode are in the upper 30s to low 40s, with a peak average of 90 during my Cinebench testing in performance mode.
This thing isn't perfect, though, with a couple quality control issues. The trackpad on my unit is uneven. While it doesn't appear to have impacted functionality, my previous L5 Pro experience is making me wary that it could become a problem later down the road. The other issue is the spacebar. It's quite rattly, and when you press it on the right side, it sometimes sounds like it's hitting a piece of sticky tape. Like the trackpad, it's still functional, but the sound is annoying.
Had I paid retail or even a marginally discounted price to order this from Lenovo directly, I'd be returning it. However, given that this only cost $1400, I think I'll be able to overlook these faults for now. Maybe a month or two down the road, I'll contact their support and see about getting the keyboard and trackpad replaced like I did on my old L5 Pro.

Hi!
Ive been using my L5pro for gaming for about 3 months or so. Pretty good at gaming.
Today I've tested mining with the 3070 Micron, and Ive noticed that it is unable to mantain stock core speed even with stock memory speed. It will clock down to 500 mhz while the memory runs its normal 7000 mhz. Not to mention that if you overclock the memory results wont vary at all.
I guess that this is normal because of the Micron GPU memory, demanding more wattage than it should.
While gaming Ive never noticed such a "downclock" in the core, despite of beeing the gpu at 99% usage.
What do you think? -

After using my Walmart special L5 Pro, the trackpad started exhibiting the same erratic behavior as the one I had repaired a few months ago. The noisy spacebar continued to get on my nerves. But worst of all, Lenovo must have changed the fan behavior in recent BIOS updates to the point where they now shut down at idle and turn on under load. So I returned it over the weekend. I also decided that I'm done with gaming laptops for the foreseeable future. For a hot second, Best Buy had the 16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro in stock so I was able to grab one. It's way more money than I wanted to spend, but it will effectively replace my M1 Air and whatever gaming laptop I would otherwise be using. Crossover and Parallels have made great advancements in recent weeks/months to where I should be able to play the games I want with reasonable performance.
-
Sorry to hear. At least you are done with the game and snagged a reliable laptop you'll get a lot of use out of. I'm still holding out hope for another 7i if Lenovo ever restocks them.saturnotaku likes this.

I did the same thing. You can reflash your bios chip with this: https://www.amazon.com/KeeYees-SOIC8-EEPROM-CH341A-Programmer/dp/B07SHSL9X9/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=ch341a+programmer&qid=1636434014&qsid=137-2601178-4037553&sr=8-3&sres=B07SHSL9X9%2CB07R5LPTYM%2CB07VNVVXW6%2CB08KG7YM45%2CB07VNVX181%2CB07VMPZFWH%2CB07PFCJ8G9%2CB07YFPJQ5W%2CB07S8MZ4C4%2CB07DJ4GF3N%2CB08HH6CPVF%2CB014VSGH4Y%2CB09GRQMKV5%2CB07RV35D4B%2CB0761NFS56%2CB08HP4X326
Its much scarier than it looks. Basically you plug the flash drive thing into a computer, and clamp the clip down on the chip you’re trying to reprogram.
This thing has gotten me out of so many binds…. When I got my hands on the advanced bios I played with a ton of settings and bricked it. Had to reflash it several times. I flashed the vbios too, and luckily the clip works on that chip as well.
If you’d like help learning how to do it, HMU.jlp0209 likes this. -

That was weird, comparing my Aero 15x v8 (GTX1070) my L5P perform way better. I do find out that some old software are not optimized for the new hardware (moving premiere CS6 to CC kinda solve the issue) but further investigation might be required (using DXVA?)Last edited: Nov 9, 2021

Thanks for the link, I may just buy one to have on a shelf in case something ever happens. On the fence about re-buying the 7i at the moment. It looks like it's about to be re-stocked as it (the 3080 version) pops up as a pre-config option but can't be added to cart.
I'm pretty content with my current laptop that supports XMP out of the box (as all enthusiast grade laptops should), I'm running a set of 32gb Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz, CL16 at 1.35v no problem. -
In case anyone has been sitting on getting a Legion 7 from Lenovo directly use the code LEGIONDEALS20 for 20% OFF. I assume it will work for any Legion laptop. Buying a Legion 7i with an RTX 3080,11800H, 16GB Ram, and a 1TB ssd for just under $2400 after tax seems like a solid buy.

That would be a great deal. I put an i9-11980hk rtx 3080 in the cart and saved $632. Total $2527 (before tax). Only problem is they only have 3060 models ready to ship. Made to order ships in 1+ months.
-
That's why I don't have one. I did order one a couple months ago, but they delayed it a few times and I cancelled. But I kept my eye on it for a better price so that I could justify the wait. As far as I'm aware this is still the best there is if you want a high end gaming laptop. And I can't see much better of a deal popping up for any seasonal sales. Plus there will be 12th gen cpu laptops being announced early next year I imagine. But atleast it's a better value than anything Alienware has to offer at this point.
-
Wow thanks for posting this. Great time to buy. Ordered the same config as you with the 3 year ultimate support warranty for $2515 all in including tax. Pretty nice deal. I was on the fence about the i9 CPU but didn't think it was worth the cost. I already have a set of 32gb RAM on-hand which I'll swap in.
I am regretting the Maingear Vector Pro I got for $2284 including the $300 for Microcenter's 2 year warranty. Will have to suck up the loss and sell it. It's a great laptop, but not in the same league as the 7i w/ 3080. -

Had I not just purchased and started the process of falling in love with my 16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro (The screen...my God, the screen), I would have been all over this. -
That’s pretty good I say. I’m debating getting it. At that price it’s a steal, but I just upgraded my main pc. So I’m wondering if I’d use it or it would sit a lot. So I’m gonna sleep on it.
Tell me more about the screen. Lol. I was watching tally ho on YouTube talk about the 14” version. Seems great but has some ghosting?

Out of curiosity has the battery life issue while using the corsair software been addressed? That was the only thing I remember hearing was a bit of a let down on the machine.

Nope. Still a problem; however it is easy to stop the 4 processes and lots of info about creating a simple batch file that does all of that for you.

This is the main reason I've avoided the Legion 7. This has been a problem for two years now, and neither Lenovo nor Corsair seems particularly keen on getting it fixed. Hopefully the next-generation L7 drops iCue integration all together.Terreos likes this. -
That’s disappointing. But I honestly don’t have any issue with the default rainbow barf. I will take a look into what it takes to turn that all off since every once in awhile I do like to use my laptops away from the wall. But if I can average about 4 hours I’m good to go.
-
You can always switch it to the static white-blue and now it actually remembers your choice. You can realistically do away with iCue in general if you want.

saturnotaku Notebook Nobel Laureate
Removing iCue completely is probably the best option but I have a hard time abiding by it because you’re essentially not getting one of the features you’ve paid for that sets the Legion 7 apart from the 5 and 5 Pro.

It is kinda silly that something like a battery drain through your lightning software has been a known two year issue. So I can see someone not being impressed by that and wanting to skip it. Plus that does speak volumes about both corsair and lenovo for more or less not caring. On the flip side it is basically the only issue with the machine. So if you can over look it then I still think you're getting the best laptop with the most new features this generation. Especially with such a heavy discount I think it's alot easier to swallow.

If its that long of an issue then the OpenRGB devs might be able to support it.
https://github.com/CalcProgrammer1/OpenRGB
https://gitlab.com/CalcProgrammer1/OpenRGB
I messaged one of them regarding the issue but I'm sure they're gonna need someone with a Legion laptop, which I dont have. -
Hey folks, I put in an order for a pair of Legion 5 Gen 6 AMD (the 15" one) for my kids. I can't find anything to suggest that the screens are touchscreens, but I was kinda hoping they were. It's not a deal-breaker if they're not, just a nice-to-have. If anyone can confirm either way, I'd appreciate it; thanks.

If expecting two gigantic tech companies to work together to resolve a rather severe issue that has been going on for two years makes me hard to please, then so be it.BlakLanner, jlp0209 and Terreos like this. -
See, that’s were the hard to please statement comes in. A “severe” issue? I think I can comfortably say that you are exaggerating.
An inconvenience? sure. A bummer? I agree. Should it be fixed? Of course. Severe? No, but I guess that’s just my opinion. I uninstalled icue and called it a day.
My lights aren’t as pretty but life goes on and, otherwise, the 2021 Legion 7 kicks some butt. IMO of course.Kalen likes this.
