I have never tried that method, but the "gentle massage" method worked for me in one case.

Hello everyone, a friend just get a new legion 7i with a 11800h and a 3060 and I have two questions:

1-What is the best BIOS? or should I just download the latest?
2-How can I unlock undervolting with Throttlestop?and what are the values best known for 11800h?
3-How can I downloads the drivers? its keeps asking for serial although the laptop hasn't arrived yet.

    Thanks

1 and 3: Use Lenovo Vantage (installed on the laptop) to update the bios and drivers once the laptop arrives.

So no way of pre downloading the drivers and the latest bios is the best?

    Thanks

He needed to predownload the drivers due to internet issues, so I dont know what do you mean no need to?

Ran jscreenfix again for 5 more hours, no luck. If it doesn’t go away within the return window it’ll pain me to return this one as well, laptop is perfect otherwise. For the price premium I expect a perfect screen out of the box.

Was able to snag a prebuilt Legion 5i with 3070 yesterday right before they sold out, it shipped today and will deliver Friday. Will be out of town so will look forward to firing it up next week. The 20% off code worked without issue and total cost was $1467. Maybe I’ll have better luck with the L5.

Regardless I’m returning the Alienware back to BB, I can’t accept that the machine won’t run at max power unless you set the fans to 100% using default max thermal mode through the AWCC app. Custom fan curves won’t allow max performance which is BS.

I am not sure that it was clear that the method I had not tried is the heating one.

Not only did massaging work once: the software method you are using worked once for me as well, on the first try. The other cases I had would not work with massaging or software. I had one such case that eventually self-corrected much later!

Even the "good" single rank memory is pretty bad compared to a decent set. On the AMD L5P, I was wondering why my fps is so bad in Genshin Impact (70-110fps with fps unlock mod). GPU wasn't hitting full utilization despite the CPU being quite capable. Swapped out the ram for a dual rank kit and lo and behold, GPU utilization is pinned at 99%, with fps ranging from 110-160fps depending on the scene complexity. General benchmark scores improved as well.

Testing out yet another laptop cooling pad (after the Cooler Master Notepal X3 beat the Klim Mistral):

    IETS GT500 V1 (Hub)
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09D6J56NS/

Shows up Tuesday. Has been getting some solid reviews. Noise isn't a worry for my use case, this one seems to scream. :)

Someone is selling me a 3 month old (mint condition) lenovo legion 7 (5800H + 3070) with 1 year extra of warranty service for $1400, is it worth picking this up over my current laptop? I have the eluktronics Mag 15 (9750h + 2070 max q (can go up to 100 watts))

100%. That will be a great upgrade. I definitely noticed a good upgrade from my previous Legion 7i with RTX 2080S and 10750H to my current Legion 7i with RTX 3070 and 11800H. Same fps but with QHD+ vs 1080p

I am 99% sure the warranty does not transfer - so just make sure that this dude or dudette will back you up or that you have all of their info so you can roll (or have them change their address to yours or something).

I was looking at Lenovo warranty info a few days ago. The warranty is tied to the laptop serial number, not the person who bought it. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht117676-is-lenovo-warranty-transferable

I just got the laptop, is there a better and lighter charging brick I can use than this ridiculous 300w brick? Lol has anyone tested how much power limit the 3070 gets on USB c 100w?

I believe the minimum power draw for the 3070 is 125W (up to 140W with dynamic boost) so you're not going to want to use a standard 100W Type-C connector for anything other than topping off the battery or performing light-duty tasks.

That being said, I have one of these GaN chargers en route, which should be here this week.

240W USB-C GaN Charger – SlimQ Official Store

The USB-C ports are 100W, but it has a proprietary connector in the middle that, when used in conjunction with the Lenovo slim-tip adapter ($10 extra), is supposed to provide up to 240W.

The only way to truly stop it is to either uninstall it or disable the services. Either way, you're then limited to the six built-in lighting effects. That said, I've not actually found the drain to be that bad, at least based on measuring CPU power consumption. It is definitely higher with iCue running but nowhere near the 50W Jarrod reported in his review. In my use it's around 5-8W total. Quitting the software from the system tray if I'm on battery and disabling the lighting by keeping the machine in quiet mode (blue power button light) keeps power draw to 1-2W. This doesn't improve battery life much, but that may be more of an Intel thing.

I'm using and, not Intel. I'll check it out but I rather have 1 charger than plugging in 2. Does the 240 w charger from Lenovo provide enough power? On the go I plan to use the quiet mode

What are you talking about? The charger I linked to can deliver 240W through the connector in the center and the Lenovo slim tip adapter.

I have windows 11 pre installed and at 50% I get around 1.5 hours of battery with Optimus enabled... I might re-install everything to Windows 10 and start fresh. Would I lose anything? Anything from Lenovo I should back up? This is a fresh install so I don't mind losing everything.

The bottom of the laptop also gets warm on quiet which I didn't think would happen (plugged in) and not using the Nvidia GPU. Any tips or changes I should make to maximize battery? I already uninstalled icue

You may have a rogue process that's causing higher than normal CPU usage. This is what happened when I was having problems updating the GPU drivers on my Legion, and I had to fix it with an OS reinstall. The only applications you really need for the laptop are Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo Hotkeys, both of which are available through the Microsoft app store.

I did a fresh install of windows 10, installed vantage and everything is now updated. Laptop no longer gets hot and the fans are quiet most of the time while on desktop without importing anything. I HATE windows 11, it's the new vista. Getting around 6 hours of battery without icue installed

All hail the IETS GT500! (If you get one, get the 5000 RPM one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09D6J56NS/).

Thanks for the heads up! Not showing up in Vantage for my Legion 7i 16ITHg6 (11980HK/3080). How did you find it?

    I finally got to test my Legion 7i with 11800H / 3080 / 32GB of stock ram.
I got to say that there are lots of pro's for this laptop, the monitor is amazing, the thermals are probably the best I've ever seen on a laptop, the performance are top tier, the price is fair.
I wish the chassis felt a little more premium, i also wish there was full fan control on the Lenovo Vantage software, also on my unit the trackpad is terrible and almost unusable. I feel like these things could be addressed fairly easily and would make this laptop even more amazing.

    Here are my result
    Cinebench R23 Multi (50x, 42core, -0.125MV undervolt, 20C ambiant)

Awesome results! What RAM did you get? (x8, x16). If you got x8, it's in line with the bump up (5% from my score) since I got the (inferior) x16 RAM.

For fan control, LegionFanControl is pretty awesome (but yes, would be nicer if it was built in like competitors) - https://www.legionfancontrol.com/.

As for the ram I'm using the stock SK Hynix ram which is 2 x 16GB 1Rx8

If I remember right you can download it here and then Microsoft store will update it. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/do...p-driver-for-windows-10-32-bit-64-bit-ideapad
From what I read it will download the correct ICC profiles from the cloud.

Nice! Yes, the "top end" CPUs like the 11800H and the 11980HK are about the same and not hugely faster. Same goes for the full power 3070 to the full power 3080! You made the right call with your build!

    Model: Legion 7 16ACHg6
    Specs: 5800H, 16gb, RTX3070
Describe your issue: Display turns off during gaming, fans spin up to max speed for 30 seconds and then fans slow down to idle, computer is still but display stays off (even with Win + Crtl + Shift + B) until next reboot
Have you tried troubleshooting?: Re-installed drivers, updated all drivers, fresh windows 10 install, Updated to latest bios
When did you encounter the issue?: While playing a video game, happens on desktop soon after enabling overclocking in bios but after disabling overclock in bios it still happens during gaming (and temps for both GPU and CPU are under 80 C)
Did it start after installing new drivers or software?: No

anyone have suggestions or know what might be going on? yes I re-installed drivers using DDU already.

For anyone who has the Slimq 240W GaN charger, when connected to the DC port, does the indicator LED flash between blue and orange when the laptop is idling? I’m seeing this behavior with mine. The light goes to a steady blue when putting the machine under any sort of load or when powered via Type-C.

Want to know if this is something that’s unique to me or if this might be expected behavior.

If it only does this while gaming it sounds like a faulty video card. If it did it at random times it could be the screen also. Im sure you've already did this, but make sure you don't have any OC on and then try again.

I can confirm this issue does not happen if I am on hybrid graphics mode. Only in discrete GPU mode does this happen.

Is there a way to download old bios for the legion 7? Can't seem to find it on the lenovo website, I'm thinking my black screens might be tied to latest bios update (saw some old threads somewhere they mention rolling back they stopped having the black screen issue). If that doesn't fix it, I guess it's time to call in warranty.

The company confirmed this as well. It’s rather annoying so I’m just going to put a piece of electrical tape over the light and call it a day.

I think so. Whatever bios you have now, replace the number in the link with the bios you want. For instance, https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/aucn59ww.exe, replace aucn59ww with the number for the bios you want. Go to the lenovo drivers page for your system and find the link for your current bios to replace it. The link above is for my Yoga C940.

Got around to opening the Legion 5i that was delivered a week ago. Flawless screen so far which is a relief. I am able to flash the 140w Legion 5 Pro 3070 vbios onto it but didn't flash yet. I am in the process of creating a bootable USB recovery image from Lenovo direct download; I plan to install the OS, etc., on a 2 tb drive and will use the stock 512 gb drive as a dedicated drive for my office server and files. Will also install my 32gb Fury RAM. After all of my tweaks the laptop should be a beast.

Not expecting the battery life to be stellar but I plan on buying the larger battery and installing that one.

The screen on the Legion 7 is far better, not even close. But for $1589 all in the 5i a very nice piece of kit. Hope no pixel defects or dust specks will pop up.

Hey folks - just got back from vacation and my icue software - lightning linked to temperature specifically - doesn't seem to be working. the RGB works without icue, but when I load icue then the keyboard lighting goes blank. I've tried different lighting profiles etc, but same result?

i'm not sure why icue is not able to read the temperature sense any more?

EDIT: I uninstalled icu and reinstalled the latest version from the website and then, after some futzing around, I got it to work again.

The Legion 5 GPU TGP appears to me to be hard capped within the main system bios. I've flashed a few 140w RTX 3070 vbios onto it and none run at 140w in performance mode despite good temps and the NV control panel showing that the TDP is 140w. Apparently it has been an issue with the Legion 5 Pro as well, never got one so can't test it.

Other than that my 5i is great, but it is a major issue in my mind. So here's my dilemma:

Alienware M15 R5 - able to flash 140w 3070 vbios no problem, but in order to actually utilize full CPU+GPU power you need to run the stock max fan / thermal mode. Custom fan profiles won't allow full power usage. Which is really lame. Timespy GPU score of 11,900. I get random severe GPU throttle out of nowhere after gaming for over an hour, where it'll go down to 800mhz despite core temps being good. I think this could be due to VRM thermals but can't prove it. Just a theory based on other Alienware users' reports on other systems. Not good.

Legion 5i- sticking with the 130w vbios because there's no point in going higher given the hard bios cap. Runs quieter in performance mode. Timespy GPU score of about 11,000. Got 11,200 when trying a 140w vbios. Able to undervolt the i7 11800H cpu easily. I think thermal system is better on Legion vs. Alienware.

I am bothered by both systems- let me use MY laptop how I want to use it.

That refurb L7 with 5900HX and 3080 for $2299 at Microcenter tempts me daily...

Any ideas in how to find the file to downgrade the bios? I have a 5800h/3070 (82JU002YUK), updated to last bios yesterday (GKCN49WW) nothing else has changed now few games are capped to 80 fps, weird. I would like to roll back to see if the bios update caused the issue.

    Edit

Sorted, the file is the gkcn46ww. Just replace names and download it if necessary.
But even after downgrading the bios, games are capped at 80FPS. Gonna try other stuff.

    Edit 2

After DDUing the nvidia driver and reinstalling it the fps went back to normal.
