Right, I get that. But in real life what kind of % difference are people seeing in benchmarks

Up to about 15%-ish better in most games.

Just a thought, but on my previous X1Es there was a plastic mesh taped to the bottom panel to keep the fans clean. When I removed this the fan pitch was MUCH better. Maybe the L7 has the same issue?

Id say around 10% -15% in most games with some a bit higher or lower stock with a RAM upgrade the 5 Pro closes that gap pretty significantly.
Saying that the high Watt RTX 3070 really performs very well and will play almost every game you throw at it easily

FYI with the latest Legion 5 Pro BIOS (GKCN36WW), Lenovo changed the fans so that they idle all the time now. They used to be completely silent in quiet mode. You can use the rollback feature to flash the previous GKCN34WW version if this behavior is not to your taste. I didn't even notice until someone on reddit pointed it out.

My unit came with 36. Not sure this bothers me as I never use the quiet mode anyway, but good to know.

Tried charging the L5P over USB-C with my 60W PD adapter, and it didn't work with my 100W cable. Ordered brick that is (allegedly) confirmed for 100W/5V/20A and will see how that goes.

I did a stock vs better RAM test in 3DMark:

    (With stock RAM)
    Total: 10408
    GPU: 10731
    CPU: 8896

    (With better RAM)
    Total: 10621
    GPU: 10749
    CPU: 9954

Totally worth it with better RAM. ;-)

I didn't bother with repaste this time as the stock thermals was very good.

The Legion 5 Pro is clearly the better value atm. Im not sure how much the Legion 7 will cost here in the US and we wont find out until sometime in July.

Those of you who have the 5 Pro, do you think it is too heavy to hold on your lap all day on a cooler? I really want one but that's what I would be doing and I don't know if 5.4 lbs will be too much. I do that now but it's only 3 lbs plus the cooler.

btw .. just saw someone posted on Reddit 4 hours ago they got one at Walmart for $1399 in Central New York. I'm gonna have to go Walmart browsing in the morning.

I use this cooler with my L5P: Amazon.com : MAX SMART Laptop Lap Pad Laptop Stand with Attached Mouse Pad, Cushion and USB Cooling Fan, Non-Slip Heat Shield Tablet Computer Stand for Sturdy Work Station for Home, Office, Bed Sofa, Couch and Car : Office Products

No problems with having it on my lap for hours on end. I like that it has a tray for a mouse, but the hard surface isn't ideal. I ended up savaging an old pad so the mouse can glide quietly.

Question for L5P owners.... is more hot air supposed to come out of the side vents than the rear? I started noticing it more when playing intensive games since I started feeling more hot air blowing onto my hands. I put my hands around the rear and side events and noticed a lot more air flowing out the sides than rear.

Lenovo's site doesn't even say that the 3070 version exists and is out of stock anymore, just that the 3060 version is available. Doesn't fill me with confidence.

Walmart has a third party listing for it though, with one half-sized SSD and a whopping $2400 price tag. I hope nobody gives a single cent to those scalpers, last thing we needed was to have this problem here too.

Don't read anything into it. This happens all the time when an item goes out of stock. It will come back eventually, and it may even become available through an authorized seller sooner.

That's from a 3rd-party seller. It should be $1,530 on the website and $1,399 in store. It was in stock online for a hot second earlier today, and you just have to get lucky to find one in a brick and mortar location.

As I said before, you need to be in the right place at the right time to catch it. If you're tired of playing retail roulette, Lenovo has just dropped the price of the RTX 3060 model to basically where it should be - $1,499. It's in stock for next-day shipping.

The top-spec L7 with 5900HX and RTX 3080 popped up on CDW for pre-/backorder for $2,746.99, which I believe is cheaper than what the same config would cost to order from Lenovo directly. No word on when it would ship, though.

    Lenovo Legion 7 16ACHg6 - 16" - Ryzen 9 5900HX - 32 GB RAM - 1 TB (2x) SSD - 82N6008AUS - Laptops & 2-in-1s - CDW.com

B&H also has a listing for the Intel-powered 7i with an RTX 3070 for $2,019.99 with an estimated ship date of October 4. You can't place an order, but you can sign up to get notified when it comes into stock.

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1624274-REG/lenovo_82k60002us_legion7_i7_11800h_32gb_1tb.html

B&H does have the base Legion 5 with R7 5800H and RTX 3060 in stock right now for $1,269.99. Only 8 GB of RAM, but you're going to want to replace that anyway.

The AMD Legion 5 17 2021 is now up on Lenovo's US site as well. ~$1800 for the 5800H/8GB/1TB/3070 config, but there are also pre-configs for $1650. Sadly shipping is no time soon. The keyboard backlight is only white which is awesome.

Wow, the new 7i is shipping in 4+ months, at least for US buyers!
    upload_2021-7-2_14-11-36.png

Welp, it's off the site again now. Not sure if that's cos it's sold out or if it's because it wasn't meant to go up so fast. For anyone who's interested, the 32 gig RAM, 1 gig ssd and 3080 was a hair over $3k.

EDIT: I managed to order one through my founders card access, for the top end Legion 7 config (including $25 for accidental damage), the price was $2,707. This is for Ryzen 5900, 32gig, 3080, 1tb.

I ordered a Legion 7 5900HX with the 3080, 32 GB, 1 TB config from Lenovo’s US site on Friday morning.

When I check my order status on Lenovo’s website now it says:

“expected to arrive” February 14, 2022.

WTF! I sure hope they do a lot better than that. I don’t know how long I’ll wait for it to ship but it won’t be anywhere near that long.

If you order from Lenovo use EXTRAFIVE to save 5%. Brings the RTX 3070 with 5800H come to $2070 after taxes. No idea when it will ship. Hopefully not four months and that is just a place holder.

If you sign up for a MyCDW account, you get an extra 5% off most items. This would bring the Legion 7 5900HX/RTX 3080 down to $2,635, which is still less than ordering from Lenovo directly. I ordered a non-Pro Legion 5 with the 5800H and RTX 3070 for $1,350. I want to see if the extra GPU power is worth losing the 1600p screen and G-Sync.

Technically the Lenovo spec sheet for that model says it has G-Sync. Surprised to see these low prices on 3070 configurations.

They also have the 82JY005TUS Legion 5 17 config as well. The price is $1600 after the 5% discount and it ships in 4-6 weeks instead of 4+ months from Lenovo directly. For the extra $250 (compared to the 15 inch model) you get a 1TB SSD, Windows 10 Pro and a 4-in-1 card reader.

I have this annoying issue. Suddenly the mouse pad stopped working on my L5P. It's not hardware, as it works in UEFI BIOS, but not in Windows 10. It happened once before, but somehow I sorted it out, but I have no idea how.

    Any ideas?

It's not disabled by Fn-F10 etc. I'm not that n00b.

EDIT: Nevermind. I think I figured it out. A driver conflict from a "smart" driver app.

Yeah, you should never use types of programs. The drivers that Windows installs out the box are fine, with the only really necessary updates being for the GPUs and wireless card.

I found a webshop in my country that have Legion 7 in stock in remote storage. I'm gonna try and order the L7 one more time, the Ryzen 7 version (5800H, RTX 3080, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD).

I'll keep my L5P until I verified the L7 works as it should.

EDIT: About 5 days delivery. Let's hope that's true.

You're hurting your Legion 5's feelings. It's too young to be retired.
