I am probably repeating the tale of woe that many Z60m and Z60t buyers have told. I ordered my z60m on December 5. Originally, the salesman told me he expected it to ship by early January. It remained in the limbo of "Packing" for over a month. Finally, in early January I got an email saying it would ship by January 16. About one week later I got an email saying it would ship January 31. The estimated shipping date on the order status website stayed at January 31 for several days, bounced back to January 25, and then back to the 31st. Today, January 26, I checked the website and it said February 16! That's 2 1/2 months from the date of order, which is ridiculous! By the time this computer gets to me, it will be obsoleted by Intel Duo Core computers. I am ready to cancel the order and send back the case and extra memory they sent me over a month ago.
Hey, Lenovo, when you're finally ready to make some Z60m's, let me know. Maybe I'll be interested, but your credibility has suffered badly.![]()
-
This is not new to Lenovo. IBM did it too.
-
sadly we could start an entire forum related to issues with shipping on about the last 5 product releases for ThinkPads, the X41-tablet was a disaster on wait times for shipping when it came out as well. When it takes 2.5 months to get a notebook and other mfrs ship in a week or two obviously that's more than a huge problem. We sent an email to our contacts at Lenovo a couple of days ago but have had no formal response on any issues.
sorry for your pain here, you'd be right to look elsewhere for a product if you have no confidence in when you'll actually get this order. -

8:36PM CST, still packing. If nothing happens by monday morning during IBM business hours, I am canceling the order and buying the new Apple MacBook thing or other non-insane waiting time laptop.

Weeeee, 1-28-05, still packing, past ship date. Guess who is canceling now and never planning on buying an IBM product for a very long time? The only way I am going through with my order if IBM personally contacts me and ship this sh it out monday morning.

Call 'em up. Tell them you don't want to, but you are about to cancel.

I am in the same situation as well. I ordered my z60m on Dec 8 and my original ship date was supposed to be 1/13. They then sent me an email saying that my order will be shipped by 1/26. However, whenever I go to the website, it still lists 2/14 as the ship date.
However, everytime I call the lenovo support people, they told me it should be shipped out end of last week and then end of this week and then now perhaps next week.
I was just wondering whether to trust the website or the support people at lenovo. Nobody seems to know what the heck is wrong with the shipment.
Thanks for any advice.
TL -
I would say to trust neither of them, for these reasons:
1.) The CSR and salespeople definately don't know. They want to be helpful, but they generally have no idea what is going on in China. There may be a supply issue that they won't be aware of.
2.) The website is notoriously wrong, has been since IBM ran the operation, nothing new.
Chances are that you will get the order sooner than the website says.
Keep in mind one thing...
Lenovo can't charge your credit card until they ship, so they will do EVERYTHING possible to ship it ASAP. Once they have the needed parts, they will have people working 24/7 to get the order shipped. They want the money.
Sorry to tell you this, but...
When it ships, you could be 3 days to 2+ weeks away from delivery. UPS Customs delays in Louisville, KY range from 1 day to 2+ weeks, and there is NOTHING that you can do to expedite it. I think that Lenovo's choice of UPS over FEDEX has a lot (if not everything) to do with this. UPS is horrible, and their tracking is rediculous. You will see stuff like "Import Scan" over and over again, and scans in Louisville, then back in China, which DON'T mean that the package is going back and forth overseas. They are just informational BS scans that UPS puts online.

and UPS runs those commercials about having efficient delivery lines which fly through customs, etc...

Ordered z60m via EPP on 12/28---supposed to ship 1/8...then changed to 2/9. I have called several times and they always have an excuse....said the 2/9 date was worse case.....
I case it is worse case....probably gonna get WORSER, huh??

Getting Canceled Monday! Screw Ibm -
I agree about UPS. I'd stay away from that company as much as possible. They do other little things to make money as well. Like, I ordered a small poster for 8 bucks which I wanted baaaaaadly from US. I live in Sweden and as far as customs goes, anything bellow 15-20USD will get through without taxation. . . Unless you're UPS, whereas you take the liberty of opening up the package, report it for taxation, re-pack it before it arrived to the customer; This resulting in a 3day delay as well as a 15USD "administration fee" bill. I called ´em up and told them about this, but they were very apathic about this and could not understand why in the world I was upset.
I've used USP a couple of times before that, and I can't say they're very service minded. Both times I were at work/University so they left a note in the mailbox telling me to dial a certain number. Only problem is that they'd only be willing to drive out the parcel between 2 - 4pm, othewise I'd have to come get it myself at some storage house far down the city bay. 2-4pm eh? I wonder how many people are actually home at those hours during weekdays.
Well, I told them I'd pay the bill then, but I'd never use their services again, and I'd also spread the word about this (Which I'm doing right now as a matter of fact).
Soo yeah. I've used feedex three, four times when importing more expensive stuff from both Japan and America, and their service seems to be really great.
Soo yeah, I don't post in here all that often, but this is a matter which shouldn't be overlooked, and the more oppinions on the matter the better. -
I ordered Z60m late on a wednesday and received it the following monday, despite the 2-4 week ship date estimate on the web site.

wow... I'm glad I cancelled my z60t order back in december and went with my asus. These wait times are ridiculous!
If you are going to cancel your order and can wait it out, maybe consider getting a Core Duo laptop, since anything else is already out-dated. Of course, depending on your needs, getting a Sonoma-based laptop for a clear-out discount might be a good option. -
Hey,
Did your status online ever change from packing and give you a tracking number or did you just order and it showed up as still packing and just come real quickly?
I'm asking because I placed an order last thursday, and when I called on Friday one guy said it was shipping out that day, and later I called again and they said all they see is packing. Thanks for the help -
-
mmm...
Ordered a Z60m 11/01/05
Original shipping wait time was 1 month... That bugged me. Then it got put off for another month, I called - they promissed that this is the worst case scenario, and it should take at most 2 more weeks. Then it got put off for 2 more weeks again. And then again... I'm not kidding
Order date: 11/01/05
Est. Ship Date: 02/03/06
I'm not cancelling the order, since I am getting a very cheap and good deal through my college. This wait is killing me... but I'm poor.
But if anyone else ordered their laptop anytime 2 weeks or more after mine, i wouldn't even try hoping to get it for another month. -

According to the IBM Rep I spoke with just minutes ago, they just got out of an interview "about an hour ago" and all the backordered laptops were supposed to be shipping out nextweek tuesday (2/7/06). This is pretty laughable considering the track record, but hey, something might change. lol
-
It seems that most of the delivery delays are on the newer *60 models. Anyone have trouble recently with getting a T43 shipped reasonably quickly? Ordered one today (no customization, and no additional parts/accessories) with status "Within 2 weeks". Hoping it gets in sooner than that, but certainly not later.
-
I have been waiting for a deal on the Z60T for the last month but I've been nervous about all the delivery nightmare stories floating around.
I ordered a Z60T through a bundle deal that started on February 1st. Got a notification that it was shipped on Feb 2nd with an UPS Ground tracking number and delivery date of 2/6/06.
Might be the configuration choices that cause the delays. -
Gah! So disappointed to read this thread. I ordered a z60t on the Lenovo website on 1/5. At that time, it was listed as "in stock" -- although, LOL, the free carry case and cable lock was listed as being available within 2 weeks. So perhaps it's that free carry case that's holding all this up.
Now the website is telling me 2/4 for estimated shipment (a Saturday). I called customer service earlier this week, and was told 2/24 for estimated shipment (stills says 2/4 on the website). I asked, WTF, and was told that they were having problems with their Chinese warehouse because it was closed for Chinese New Year. Fine, everyone gets a holiday, but since 1/5? Until 2/24? How dumb do they think I am?
I see it listed as being in stock on some resellers, but not with the config I want. Plus now I'm not sure if I trust that "in stock" status. -
Just to give you some good news: I ordered a Z60t yesterday(they have a good bundle deal on their website right now). It was out of stock, but due "within 2 weeks". I just got an email saying they shipped it!
-Mark -
So basically the initial website order status is completely useless.

Yea, gotta love the "I JUST SPOKE WITH THE HIGHER UPS AND ALL ARE GOING OUT 100%" speech. I wonder if they go off of a pre-determined script of the week so they know how to lie correctly and not get tripped up between customers so the story is always the same for each customer. -
Hi Folks,
Commiserations from a fellow-sufferer who is happy at last.
I ordered mine from Lenovo back on 19th Nov '05. Was promised 2 to 4 wks. delivery.
They kept delaying and spinning yarns each time I called.
The final straw was in early Jan when they emailed me a Jan 29th ship date.
I found the same build in stock at a reseller, ordered from them and CANCELLED the "Lousy Lenovo" order.
My unit arrived about a week later from the reseller.
Do sign up with resellers - they will email you when units arrive - respond quickly (I waited 24 hours the first time and all their stock was sold).
The Z60t is WONDERFUL. I'm sorry to hear that some people had bad units, but this one is just great.
IN the past year I have used several new HPs, a Dell 9300 (too heavy for my high portability needs - AND that shiny screen reflecting too many things in the brightly lit offices that I travel to).
(Yes, the Dell was fun to watch movies on, and played my kid's games with great flair, but that's not why I need a laptop).
So, do buy the Z60t - still a great keyboard. Not flashy, even with the Ti lid (came with the build I picked - I wanted good old black on black). Lightweight, great wireless range, Bluetooth, and Verizon's famous (and expensive) "cell phone" internet connections. I just love this machine.
The video card has never faltered when presenting powerpoint with videos and projecting internet videos on-screen (touch wood).

The problem with my setup is since I can get it under IBM discount, I can't find a online retailer of it anywhere in the same ballpark for the price.
-
So if you want all the sad details...
- The web site said "within 2 weeks"
- The order confirmation email said "Feb 24" (ie over 3 weeks)
- The customer service rep said "about 5 days"
- It shipped next day.
So yes, nobody seems to know for sure when anything will ship (but I'm not going to complain too much!).
If I were Lenovo, I'd be very concerned about how many sales I was losing because:
a) Orders get cancelled because shipments take longer than was stated.
b) Orders don't get placed in the first place, because it looks as though delivery will take longer than is actually the case.

P.S. Anyone know where the Z60t's ship from? I haven't got a tracking number yet, and I was wondering how long UPS will take. -
Ordered a T43 a couple of days ago and website order status says "Within 2 weeks", with estimated ship date of 2/15.
FWIW:
Called Lenovo today, CSR says T43s are backordered 10 days and I should receive mine mid-Feb, so not too inconsistent with website. Also, I asked if the fact that I did not make any customizations helps, to which he replied, "it helps a lot". -
Yeah, the DVD-ROM vs. Combo drive choices were a bit odd.
I just got a call from my girlfriend (it's being delivered to her office) that the combo drive arrived (separately). It was shipped from Saddle Brook, NJ. The computer is 'Out for Delivery' and it originated in Raleigh, NC. So, it looks like I'm getting the computer 2 days after I ordered it, using UPS Ground. Lucky that I happen to live on the East Coast.
I was starting to think that Lenovo was never going to offer a bundle deal on the Z60T. Glad they finally came through. -
Est. Ship Date: 02/14/06 -
My Z60T arrived on Friday- 2 days after I ordered it. And I used UPS Ground.

Hey, I got a shipping confirmation e-mail!!! However: when I go to the status page, I still don't have a valid tracking number, and that's almost 24 hours after the shipping confirmation e-mail.
I did write them last week relating the numerous different shipping estimates I had received, and asking them to give me a reason not to cancel my order. They responded with an e-mail that said "your order will arrive by the third week of February." That's it. No "we apologize for the delay." No "Thank you for contacting Lenovo." No "we apologize for the misleading and completely useless and confusing information and misrepresentations you have received from us." Nada. Just another shipping date. I needed another shipping date estimate like I needed a hole in the head.
Seriously, when someone writes you complaining about the fact that she has received multiple incorrect shipping estimates, why on earth would you think that the best response was to give her yet another shipping estimate? Without any explanation at all as to why this shipping estimate was any better than any of the others?
I wrote them back and pointed out that I hadn't actually asked when my machine would arrive; I had asked them what was going on. (and I was polite about it, both times, I promise; more polite than they deserved) The next day I got the shipping confirm e-mail. We'll see if it's for real. -
I think Lenovo is instructing their sales people to tell customers that the wait time is upto 3 weeks or 15 business days.

Purchase date: 1/29/2006
When I found out you can custom-build your z60m, I was ecstatic and made the purchase (on the phone) immediately, fully aware of the long wait (originally, I had thought it would take only a month). Here's more about my wonderful purchasing experience:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=35417&page=2
Eldad, the rep, promised me the laptop should arrive within 4-6 weeks. I bought the ultrabay slim 3-cell battery, and within days I got it shipped from Hong Kong. I also got the CA Security Suite software very quickly, too (there was a huge rebate). However, in order for the rebate to be valid, I have to mail the receipt for the software AND for the laptop, assuming the laptop is built and and shipped within 30 days of my purchase. I've been having a lot of direct communication with him already, so I e-mailed him about my concerns that most people aren't getting their machines on time. Here's his response:
I think it would be best if you return the CA software, as $5 is pretty much no risk. Just call me and I'll get you on the phone with a returns person to get a Return Merchandise Authorization Number and we'll go ahead and apply the credit to your credit card. RE: wait time...there were some long wait times/fulfillment issues during the holidays, no doubt. But I quoted 4 and as many as 6 weeks when we spoke and I still have faith in that number, I had no intention of lying to you. If I am to find out of fulfillment constraints such that your unit will be held up into the 2+ months ship time, I will notify you. But, I ask also that you drop me a line from time to time to work with me in staying on top of this order. I did offer you in stock models that you scoffed at, at the time, now we wait. I trust this story will have a happy ending.
I really like the guy, and I hope he's right. That "scoffed" part was a bit rude, and I don't recall him offering me any stock models because I knew from the start I wanted a custom-built model.
My status: Packing -
Well, since I started this thread, I should update. After waiting interminably since I ordered on 12-5, and being told my Z60m would ship on 2-16, I canceled on 2-1. The Lenovo rep said he would cancel. So I ordered a Compaq through Office Depot, deciding to go cheap ($750) and small (14 inch, 5 lbs). Meanwhile, the Lenovo order stayed up on the website as "Packing." I sent emails and left phone messages reminding Lenovo to confirm cancelation, with no response from Lenovo. Suddenly last week, the Lenovo website said the z60m was "Shipped." When I finally got through to Lenovo, after making a complaint about the sales representative's failure to respond to my several messages, they said they could not cancel at this stage of the order (thanks for telling me, guys). They said there were over 200 people who had the same thing happen to them. I was unhappy with Lenovo for not telling me that they could not cancel, and for putting me in the predicament of getting two computers! Anyway, I've tracked the shipment from Shanghai on 2-9 to Ontario, Calif, on 2-11, to Denver on 2-12. So I will finally get my baby tomorrow! Now I'll have to figure out what to do with the Compaq. Lenovo said I could ship the Z60m back to them if I want, but we'll have to see if I can part with it after all this . . .
-
Exactly what happend to me miguelius, except I had already decided to keep my Asus Z70VA after a similar fiasco, just on pure principle that my order "could not" be cancelled before it was shipped....but let me tell you did that IBM ship out quick when I called to cancel! Makes you wonder....
-
Murphy's Law!
Maybe I can speed up the "Packing" and shipping process by visiting my local Office Depot, too. I think the IBM gods are watching and will want that $1700 from me. I'll just leave the "other" laptop unopened and see if my z60m's status will change to "shipped". Hahaha
For the time being, I'm admiring the ultrabay slim 3-cell battery that was shipped instantaneously after my 1/29 phone purchase. -
So it looks like the best way to get Lenovo to ship your laptop is to call and cancel your order. Maybe everyone in this forum waiting on their laptop should try that en masse.
-
GOOD NEWS for me, too!
My ship date was scheduled for 2/17, but I was VERY prepared to see that date get postponed once 2/17 actually came around. Then, just now, I got an e-mail confirmation that it's shipped! Unfortunately, there's no tracking # yet:
Your order has left our fulfillment center. Use the track shipment button for information about the carrier and your tracking number. Your delivery date will be determined by the ship date and the shipping method you selected at checkout. Actual delivery times may vary.
Can you believe that? It got shipped EARLY! It's only 2/15. I made the phone purchase on 1/29. Only half a month! I think my "thinking" of purchasing another brand got them worried. See, I told you the IBM gods were watching and listening to us. :buyIBM: -

Just hope it doesn't see the fate of 1/2 the IBM shipments with the same UPS delays and errors. Mine just got raped by the UPS sorting facility

Lenovo Losing Credibility on Shipping Dates
