Hi- I've just ordered a Lenovo N100 and am having second thoughts big time. The thing is on its way to my home as we speak- so if I am going to return it to the place I brought it from Im going to have to pay quite a bit of money to ship it back. So I'm wondering if any of you can dissuade me otherwise?

Im thinking that the HP pavillion DV6000 series maybe a better bet- ie in terms of reliability issues- eg n100's sound problems, wirless & bluetooth not being able to be turned off seperately. I have also just read quite a few reviews that say the screen quality isnt that good- I have ordered the n100 with the nvidia geforce graphics card- so am hopinh that it is going to be better than most mid range intel intergrated graphics cards.

As I from the UK I paid £450 excluding VAD for the N100 1.66ghz core duo processor T2300e with 512mb ram- its probably cheaper in the US. Anyways I can get the HP pavillion DV6116 for about £400 excluding VAT- which includes a slower processor AMD turion 64- but 1gb ram and 100gb Hard disk , nvidia geforce graphics card with 128mb dedicated ram and better sound quality.

If I plug in external speakers to the Lenovo- will i actually be able to watch a movie with decent sound?

Anyways am struggling here- I want to like the Lenovo n100, but having read quite a lot of bad reviews i am starting to think i made a mistake!

1.) Screen quality isn't affected by the graphics card.
2.) You should be set watching a move with headphones/speaker. It's often better to watch plugged in or with the computer set on max performance when on battery for a smoother playback.
3.) It's easy to second guess yourself, and you should be sure to get what you want. Remember that you can always upgrade RAM and HD aftermarket fairly easily and that CPU upgrades are much hairier. I would strongly advise a Core 2 Duo chip. If sound is very important to you, consider an external cardbus or usb solution.
4.) As far as I know you should be able to disable the devices independently in the Device manager if it's a big issue for you. I would not be too concerned, battery life is more influenced by other factors such as screen saver/hard disk & optical disk use.

I have seen them both. They are pretty similar in overall quality.

I owned an N100 for a short time and it was a good computer. There were a few things that I did not like; the bezel around the screen was a little to thick for my taste, the thinkness of the computer was a little more than I expected and teh glossy screen was a little to glossy. Other than these little issues the computer performed as it should.

However, I did sell it a little more than a month later and ended up getting at T43 instead and honestly i haven't regreted that decision.

I'm not trying to discourage you in your choice but I just wasn't happy with the things I mentioned above. It was just a pure "taste" thing for me.
