    Hey Guyz..

I'm a bit confused about which one to pick..
i'm student and want this laptop for regular school work..
no games but it would be nice to have vista aero glass ready lappy..
now i live in canada and we don't have many Z61 options here...
There is a back to school deal going on..
    And through visaperks.ca i can get A lenovo N100 (07686KU) for 899.00 CAD
But i really wanted a thinkpad and portable laptop..
So i was kinda interested in Z61t.. But i don't know anyone who can help me
with EPP discount, so all i'm counting on is visaperk.ca...
and through it the cheapest Z61t(94414FU) i can get is 1699.00 CAD...

now... i'm willing to afford that..but..
it looks for the money N100 has better options...
and if i spend almost twice to get a thinkpad..
i still won't be able to use vista aero next year..

i did some comparison between these two..

    N100 (07686KU)
    ---------------
    1.66 Ghz core duo
    Xp Home
512 MB ram.. 80 GB HDD
    intel GMA 950
    15.4 inch (1680 X 1050)
    DVD RW
    802.11abg/bluetooth
    4 USB/1 Firewire/4-1 card reader/fingerprint reader

    Z61t (94414FU)
    ---------------
    1.87 Ghz core duo
    Xp pro
512 MB ram.. 60 GB HDD
    intel GMA 950
    14.1 ( 1200 X 800)
    CDR RW-DVD ROm
    802.11abg/ no bluetooth
3 USB/3-1 card reader/ finger print reader (not sure)

btw. i've seen all these config through visaperks.ca

now all i need is a reliable strong and portable laptop
for school and normal browsing..chatting..watching movies and music..
i wanted to own a thinkpad for long now..
but it just seems waste of money..
because with almost double price.. i still get the almost same specifications..
    and no vista aero...

so isn't it better to go with N100 instead ? for like 1-1.5 year..
and later buy a good thinkpad with merom and solid GPU with vista installed?

i mean.. is it so bad? N100? i heard it spk quality isnt good and screen wobles.
is it true? i mean i can make my peace with spk but lid wobbling..isn't good..
what do u guys think? should i just go with N100? or think about Z61?
i would appriciate any comments and help...

    thanx ..

I am pretty much in the same boat here :( ... opinions seem to vary a little. But if your consider the price difference double the price ... go with lenovo. I recently had a spill on my thinkpad which took it down so i am a little skeptical of buying expensive laptops (well atleast for the moment :p ) ... try the N100 14.1" version (they are exactly the same as 15.4" versions only lighter) and generally 50$ cheaper. If you ask me i would say for college get the N100. You will appreciate the DVDRW etc. Currently the technology is in such a fast pace that make small bets. That said for what you want to do literally *any* laptop will do (browsing +chatting , ripping, music and DVDs).

It is not that the n100 is a bad notebook, but the plastic case will stand up to the beating a portable notebook takes as well the the titanium or magnesium lid and stiff roll cage on the Z61t.

The z61t in canada is priced VERY high even for employee pricing.
There are some very good prices on the z60t if you buy from the USA Lenovo Outlet store (but you will have to ship that to USA, fetch it and return it here)

Would you be interested in a new T-series from IBM canada for Cdn$1099-$1299 with dedicated graphics and vista-ready. These are loaded machines (SXGA+, XPP, multiburners, bluetooth, sxga+, some FlexViews and some others are 7200rpm, 3-year warranty)... but they are 4:3, not widescreen, and they are 2.0ghz Pentium M not dual core .... PM me if you're interested i can help u give you the code.

    Enjoy whatever.

You see more on a SXGA+ T60 than you will on a WXGA Z61t.
