I am very annoyed at the forced install of the OSD volume meter that Lenovo includes with their Lenovo Energy Management software. The software is a must for me, because it allows me to restrict my battery charge at 80% to extend its life and gives easy access to all power plans, not just 2.

However, I think their graphics are very ugly, and I prefer using a skinnable client. Also, their OSD interferes with games, forcing the attention of the OS and thus popping the game out of full screen.

Removing the OSD was easy on my y560p. After installing the Lenovo Energy Management, simply navigate to the install folder (C:/Program Files/Lenovo/Energy Management) and delete/rename the file 'utility.exe'. This part of the program is what runs the OSD.

You can also remove utility.exe from starting with MSConfig, but the real Energy Management program will still start the utility occasionally, so it is best to delete/rename it. My power plan options are still present in the taskbar, and the battery management still works 100%, just no more OSD.

If your set-up is different, please add instructions, and I will update this first post as necessary.

If this helped you, please +rep. Thank you.
